Did any of you start one these games thinking you would never be able to beat it (due to what you have heard about them, and what you experienced in the beginning of the game), but managed to overcome and complete it?

People make it sound harder than it is, the beginnings are usually the toughest part, especially if its your first, then there will be a time where it clicks and gets easier. Then every subsequent one you play gets easier and easier becasue you build your skill

I started with Demons.

Had never heard about it though. Was an interesting experience.

I played 1 once upon a time and gave up REALLY DANG QUICK because I had no idea what kind of game it was and didn't have much to compare it to. Wasn't use to the difficulty or the build creation or the gameplay or having to kinda find my own way around. The graveyard kicked my ass and then New Londo kicked my ass and I was like alright I'm done with this, lol.

Then I played Bloodborne quite a bit later and I understood that one much better. Finished it and that was a good gate into DS3, tried DS2 and it was fantastic, tried DS1 again with all my new knowledge and while it felt really clunky still compared to the rest, I enjoyed it a lot.

Demon's Souls rly stinks tho, sry everyone >_>

You 'went in' (I'm assuming this means your first playthrough?) and didn't die at all besides the first Seath encounter?

You didn't die to:
The black knight guarding the BTSR
Accidentally running through the hellkite drake fire
Getting punched by a daddy mushroom
Havel
The skeleton dogs in the Tomb
The titanite demon in Anor Londo's chapel
The roof archers or the rafter painting guardians in Anor Londo
The bullshit ghost house in New Londo
Pendulum/fall damage in Sen's Fortress
Toxic darts in Blighttown

Just to name a few? Are you joking

I bought Demon Souls when it came out because I liked the King's Field/Shadow Tower games. It was quite a bit different than them, but I played a lot of 3D action games like Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden, so I was okay with a game being hard. That said I made a magic build my first time and that actually becomes overpowered very quickly in Demon's Souls.

I started out with DS3 and didn't die either. It's actually not that hard.

I only died once in Sekiro because I heard shadows die twice and I just wanted the game to live up to its potential.

Yes, my first souls game was Dark Souls, and I was committed 100% once I started experiencing it. The sense of discovery, the brilliant enemies, and the overall RPG feel to it drove me to beat it. I thought I would quit and never touch it again before I played 10 hours, but it's legitimately fair in it's difficulty. I learned from my mistakes, I didn't get frustrated and never wanted to break my controller.

The sense of accomplishment is unmatched.

when i first went into dark souls i had heard about people doing low-level runs and to me that meant the game's difficulty had something going for it. my first character never went past level 6, and my second character never went past 10.

i figure games are always meant to be beatable even if they're trying really hard to sell you the idea that you're a gaming god for actually managing to get through it.

i wanted to see how far i could go before the game would stop me and i managed to see all of the golden walls. to its credit: hitting dead ends generally gave me everything i needed to get back on a return trip. meaning: powerful gear and embers and materials. i pulled the large divine ember out of my first totg trip and the second trip down was easier for it.

Black Knights are easy to cheese in the early game with firebombs
Running to the centre of the bridge is easy and there is a safe path under it
Mushrooms are a joke
Havel is easy to sidestep
Skeleton dogs crumble on heavy hits
Titanite demons have a lot of safe spots up close and easy to block
Archers and guardians are nothing to a great shield
Ghosts are easy
Toxic is easy to cure with an easily farmed/bought item

Marth has been proven repeatedly he doesn't know how game mechanics work in Dark Souls.

He claims he beat the game without leveling up vitaliry as well, which means he never got hit ever. He also thinks a shield with 100% physical reduction blocks all damage and you can block every single attack in the game.

Nah

Souls games really aren't that hard, they are more tests of patience more than anything else

The vast majority of deaths in Souls games are caused by people getting complacent or panicing and screwing up.

I think that's why I don't like them as much as most people. Large parts of the games can be real slogs but not actually challenging. Like dodging thunder in FFX.

I played Demon Souls first, then Dark Souls, the finally I beat Dark Souls 2. Then I went back and beat 1 and Demon Souls last. It just didn't click at first. But when it did, it really took off. Then the rest of the From Software games I bought day 1 and beat in order. From Software still has my $60 at request. If they release something that's trash for some reason, I still won't feel bad about the money cause how much they already gave me in playtime.

Not exactly.

I didnt know much about the Souls games, except that the knights and dragons looked cool and I read it wasnt easy. Bought the first one (Demons Souls), played and then quit after less than an hour from getting frustrated at several deaths. Shelved the game for almost two years, then committed to finishing it after getting tired of seeing it gather dust. Fell in love with that one and moved on to the rest.

Yes. The biggest issue usually ends-up being poor in-game camera mechanics imposed by the game engine.

If game developers were required by law to follow minimum standards for certain game controls and functions, you would see a groundswell in the number of people becoming gamers, playing different games, including these "hard games", and forming or joining communities for discussing them.

No. Please, no. Lets keep the government away from gaming. I am much more inclined to believe they will fuck things up, rather than help in any way. The only justification (read: fair) for their interference is if they subsidize a developer.

My favorite part of Demon's Souls is

When you win the supposed to lose fight, you get to see the God Dragon and then it just bitchslaps you in a cutscene and you die anyway.

Basically the game devs going "Oh so you think you're smart do ya?"

I went in knowing nothing about it but memes. Never would have bought it myself but my friend gifted me Dark Souls for christmas one year or something. I died a lot in the first game especially. There were a couple times I thought I wouldn't be able to beat it.

Mostly because I was 1v1'ing every NPC I came across (with my bare hands). Andre was a tough fight for unarmed, underleveled, noob me. When I found my boy Richard and saw he could upgrade my shit (and I couldn't punch him to death) I was inspired enough to finish. Bed of Chaos made me consider quitting again tho
