The numbers coming from Johns Hopkins are very likely far more accurate than the guy trying to get re-elected.

I trust them more as well, they get their numbers from a variety of sources.

Data sources: WHO, CDC, ECDC, NHC, DXY, 1point3acres, Worldometers.info, BNO, the COVID Tracking Project (testing and hospitalizations), state and national government health departments, and local media reports.

shouldnt good republicans trust the numbers coming from the private sector like that Johns Hopkins source as opposed to the cdc numbers which are delayed by all the beurocracy?

Start with a chessboard. Put 1 grain of rice in one Square. Then 2 in the next, then 4 in the next. Then 8 in the next. Keep doubling the number of grains of rice you put into the squares until you've placed rice in every Square and let me know at what point does the last square you put rice in contain less rice than all previous squares combined.
