Is how enemy stand users, that become allies eventually, always seem borderline unbeatable when they're bad, but when they're fighting on the good guy team, their powers always seem nerfed or get countered easily.

I know it's to give plot armor to new enemies but it's frustrating. It's like the anime equivalent of Zelda items only being helpful in one dungeon lol.

This is probably exactly why Araki wrote Fugo out of Part 5 lol

Usually it's because the protagonist is learning what their actual ability is, and developing a strategy as he goes. Once the element of the unknown is gone, the antagonist doesn't have as much of an advantage. The antagonists typically also aren't operating from an angle where they don't know anything about their opponent. Dio, Kira's Dad, and La Squadra usually had intel on their opponents.

He was the one specifically that made me think of making this thread lol.

But I feel like Polnareff didn't have many great wins with his stand after joining Jotaro. Though TBF I haven't seen Stardust Crusaders in a while so I might've forgotten a few.

That character had a Stand that attacked everyone around him indiscriminately. His ability was more of a liability than an empowering skill. This is why he lacked confidence in himself and is depicted with anger issues as having anger management problems is usually a toxic personality trait that hurts those around you.

You'd think this would be less over your head during COVID, where we're afraid to see loved ones because we could be asymptomatic.

Polnareff wasn't depicted as a team wrecker though. He had a one on one fight with Avdol who was depicted as being in league with Jotaro from the first episode. Granted Jotaro definitely surpassed him, Polnareff was shown to be a threat Jotaro would need to take seriously in the Anubis episode.

Because that's how Araki write his material. He always makes it where the protagonist is at a disadvantage and has to be creative about how the said protagonists can beat the antagonist using impracticable means or using the antagonists abilities against them. It's what makes Jojo so much fun to read/watch. Like for instance, the Bastet fight would've have been an actual fight if Joseph or Avdol never touched the Electrical Outlet. The only reason they did was to make the antagonist have the upper hand in the fight (and plus some JosephXAvdol action lol).

What does any of this have to do with "his Stand is busted and he was written off before he could trivialize the antagonist" lol

Actually, Fugo leaving because he was overpowered is just a fan rumor. Araki explained in an interview the reason he wrote Fugo off was because originally he was suppose to be the spy for Diavolo and that eventually he would've appeared as an antagonists where Giorno would be forced to kill him. Araki decided against it because he lost a friend when writing, so he just wrote him off with the good bye at the boat scene.

Huge cop out. Not like he had to go all the way through and kill off Fugo anyway. Giorno kicks his ass, Fugo gets Jesus'd and done.

I know that, but I was just giving the explanation why Araki decided to write him off. The other reason was a fan theory, and it makes more sense from a writing perspective because it would've been hard to make fights surrounding Purple Haze from a protagonists POV.

Rohan is actually one of the reasons I love JoJo.

his stand is so OP, but whenever he fights, hes constantly put in bizarre set-ups where his stand wont just OHKO the opponent. And its not like his opponent are specific hard counters to Heavens Door. Anyone in his position would be almost as fucked. >_>

All of this. It's like saying Part 4 Jotaro was nerfed. No, Araki just found ways to put him in a difficult spot. Stands make that sort of thing more plausible than other battle shonen, or any other story where a villain-turned-ally becomes a lot weaker.
