And your B8NFLL Season 13 AFC Playoff Teams are...
1. Miami Dolphins 2. Columbus Pioneers 3. Baltimore Ravens 4. Washington Hawks 5. New England Patriots 6. Indianapolis Colts This is the 4th time the Dolphins have had the AFC's top seed. They have gone on to the Super Bowl in the previous three times. The Dolphins' 14-2 record is their best in franchise history. The Pioneers are the only playoff team from the AFC who had a losing record the season before. Their 12-4 record is their best in franchise history as they captured their first AFC South title since S9. This is the third straight season the Ravens have won the AFC North and with a 10-6 record. The Hawks won four fewer games than they did a season ago but captured their first AFC West title since S7 In Discord, I had erroneously said that the Broncos won the division, but I guess the Hawks had a better common games record than the Broncos. The Pats are one of three AFC teams (Ravens and Dolphins) to have won double digit games in each of the past two seasons. Two of their three playoff berths in B8NFLL have come in the past two seasons. They have yet to win a playoff game. The Colts are one of three AFC teams with non-losing records in each of the past four seasons (Broncos and Dolphins). Like the Pats, they are looking for their first playoff win. --- KCF can't actually be a real person but he is - greengravy If you smell what the rock is cooking he's cooking crap - ertyu ... And your B8NFLL Season 13 NFC Playoff Teams are..
1. Minnesota Vikings 2. Dallas Cowboys 3. St. Louis Rams 4. Carolina Panthers 5. Washington Redskins 6. Detroit Lions This is the second straight season an NFC North team has captured the #1 seed, and this is the first time the Vikings have earned it. In their 7th postseason appearance (all in the past 10 seasons), they are looking for their first trip to the NFC Championship Game. The Cowboys won the NFC East for the 7th straight season and are looking to make their 7th straight Super Bowl. In their 10th playoff appearance (5th straight), the Rams are looking to make their fifth NFC Championship Game appearance. Making a postseason appearance in every odd year since S7, the Panthers are looking for their first trip to the NFC Championship game after having selected in the Top 5 in the draft. Despite this being their 6th postseason appearance, this is the first time Washington has entered as a wild card. They haven't had a ton of success playing in the wild card round, but when they win, they end up winning the Super Bowl. Like the Panthers, the Lions picked in the Top 5 of the draft as they made their first playoff appearance since S8. As the last non-Bronco/Cowboy/Dolphin team to make (and win!) the Super Bowl (let's ignore the Ravens in this exercise), they are looking to trot out a similar team (sans Peyton Manning) they had in their SB-winning season. --- KCF can't actually be a real person but he is - greengravy If you smell what the rock is cooking he's cooking crap - ertyu ... End-of-Season Season Awards
The following posts will contain all the awards that will be given out this season. While participation is optional, I encourage you to take 15 minutes or so out of your life to pick out your choices for each category and submit them to me via PM before the deadline. Most of the awards are from the game itself. There are a few that are entirely of my creation. The former awards will have both a User and Madden winner while the later will solely have a User winner. The nominees for awards from the game will come from the game itself with maybe a handful of exceptions. To not completely spoil who Madden chose for each award, I will reveal who was a replacement choice when the winners are revealed. Also to prevent spoilers, I reorder the nominees by team name, first name, or last name every year. This year, I chose first name. For each category, you choose the one player/coach/person you believe to be most worthy of the award. For the Offensive Player, Defensive Player, and MVP of the Year, awards, you do not have to vote for the five players listed. If you feel another player up for another award is applicable and more worthy for one of these awards, you may select them as a write-in candidate. However, I will use my discretion to null a write-in vote if I feel it to be disingenuous. Because of the success of people showing up during the Discord sims, I have decided to attempt to do the award show and playoff sim on a weekday, so the deadline to submit to me your award ballot will be Wednesday, July 8th at 5 PM ET The award show should take place later that night while the playoffs will be simmed the following night. --- KCF can't actually be a real person but he is - greengravy If you smell what the rock is cooking he's cooking crap - ertyu ... Patriots ROLB Bruce Irvin (110 tackles, 3 sacks, 6 INTs, 1 FF, 2 FRs) Lions MLB Bryan Vinson (170 tackles, 1 sack, 1 INT, 3 FFs, 3 FRs) Hawks MLB John Abbate (151 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 FFs, 6 FRs) Dolphins MLB Jordan Tripp (100 tackles, 2 sacks, 6 INTs, 2 FFs, 2 FRs) Falcons SS Thomas Davis (122 tackles, 6 sacks, 4 INTs, 1 FF, 2 FRs) Offensive Player of the Year Dolphins HB Jacquizz Rodgers (394 carries for 1931 yards (4.9 YPC), 50 rec for 347 yards (6.9 YPC), 18 total TDs, 4 fumbles) Vikings QB Josh Portis (205-350 (58.6%), 2380 yards, 96 rushes for 861 yards, 25 total TDs, 9 INTs, 6 fumbles, 87.5 passer rating) Pioneers HB Markus Manson (293 carries for 1442 yards (4.9 YPC), 46 rec for 423 yards (9.1 YPC), 15 total TDs, 3 fumbles) Dolphins QB Sam Keller (334-494 (67.6%), 3582 yards, 35 TDs, 12 INTs, 4 fumbles, 100.1 passer rating) Cowboys QB Vince Young (221-345 (64.1%), 2225 yards, 104 rushes for 1122 yards, 26 total TDs, 13 INTs, 9 fumbles (85.9 passer rating) Most Valuable Player Dolphins HB Jacquizz Rodgers (394 carries for 1931 yards (4.9 YPC), 50 rec for 347 yards (6.9 YPC), 18 total TDs, 4 fumbles) Vikings QB Josh Portis (205-350 (58.6%), 2380 yards, 96 rushes for 861 yards, 25 total TDs, 9 INTs, 6 fumbles, 87.5 passer rating) Pioneers HB Markus Manson (293 carries for 1442 yards (4.9 YPC), 46 rec for 423 yards (9.1 YPC), 15 total TDs, 3 fumbles) Dolphins QB Sam Keller (334-494 (67.6%), 3582 yards, 35 TDs, 12 INTs, 4 fumbles, 100.1 passer rating) Cowboys QB Vince Young (221-345 (64.1%), 2225 yards, 104 rushes for 1122 yards, 26 total TDs, 13 INTs, 9 fumbles (85.9 passer rating) Breakout Player of the Year Giants HB Dion Lewis Lewis had sneakily been a great backup for the Titans where he had over 10 TDs on 4.0+ YPC during his time there. Despite having earned the right to a starting job, the Titans went in another direction for their future at HB. The Giants needed a HB during the season, and in 11 games and 9 starts, Lewis proved that his time as a backup was no fluke. He ended up with over 1000 rushing yards on 4.1 YPC, over 250 rec yards, and 7 total TDs as he was for a stretch of time the only offensive threat for the Giants. Browns WR DeAndre Hopkins Hopkins made a big leap from his rookie (56 rec for 510 yards) to sophomore season (78 rec for 907 yards), but he absolutely exploded in his third year in the league. He finished second in the league in both receptions (95) and rec yards (1224) while having as many touchdowns as he did in his first two seasons combined (9) as he helped lead the Browns to their first non-losing record since S7. Buccaneers LT Jared Valdheer A former 1st round pick, Valdheer did not live up to his draft status in his first five seasons with a line 69 blocks vs 20 sacks allowed that is especially poor for an OT. While the Bucs had just their third losing season, Valdheer was a bright spot on the season with a sparkling 49 blocks vs 2 sacks allowed. The 24.5 blocks per sack allowed was one of the best block-to-sack ratios in the league. Titans DT Bennie Logan When the Panthers shifted to a 4-3 D, that put the pressure on newly minted starter Logan to prove that it was worth sitting superstar MLB Brian Cushing for this. He responded with two-sack performances in each of the first three games and ultimately finished with 32 tackles, 12 sacks, and 2 FFs on an 8-8 Titans team whose D finished in the teens. Falcons SS Thomas Davis With this being his 13th season in the league and the only incumbet SS remaining, you would think that he's had steller statistical season or two by now. However, his career highs in tackles was 75, sacks 2, and INTs 3. All of these career bests came in different seasons. He shot past all those marks in his age-34 season as he recorded 122 tackles, 6 sacks, 4 INTs as well as adding a FF and a pair of FRs. More importantly to the Falcons, he may have also bought himself another season going from an 86 to a 91 overall rating. Comeback Player of the Year Falcons QB Brian Brohm A former first round bust of the Raiders, Brohm had not thrown a pass since S8 when he posted a 19.4 passer rating and 1 TD vs 6 INTs as a Seahawk. Now 32 and a member of the Falcons, Brohm beat out Aaron Rodgers in the preseason and went on to post a stunning 84.7 passer rating (7th in NFL) and throwing the fewest INTs by a qualified passer (6) as the Falcons tied for the league's fewest turnovers (17). Pioneers HB Markus Manson After rushing for a paltry 187 yards in four games for the Redskins before losing the rest of the season to injury, Manson was 31 and looking to fall victim like all the other HBs to hit the FA market and be resigned to injury replacement duty. When the Pioneers had their top spot open up and didn't draft a HB, Manson was the player called upon and he responded by rushing for 1442 yards (6th in NFL) and tying for the league lead in rushing TDs (14) and rushing YPC (4.9). Chiefs MLB Korey Hall Underutilized in his final season in Buffalo when he started only two games, Hall looked possibly finished before the Chiefs signed the 33 year old. At one point during the season, he was on Madden's MVP watch and ultimately finished with 157 tackles, 3 sacks, 1 INT, 2 FFs, and 3 FRs on a Chiefs team that flirted with the playoffs until the end. Falcons DT B.J. Raji Having not started a game since S10 and out of football in S12, the former Bills DT would not accept a contract from his former team and moved to Atlanta where he put up double digit sacks (10) on a Falcons squad on the cusp of a playoff appearance. 49ers P Steve Weatherford As a 5th round rookie for the Raiders, Weatherford led the league in punting average. He was one of the worst punters in the league after that with a sub-43.0 avg across the next 10 seasons before exhibiting his former self in leading the league in punting average once again, this time with the 49ers. His 39.3 net average and 5.7 yard gross/net difference also led the league by considerable margins. --- KCF can't actually be a real person but he is - greengravy If you smell what the rock is cooking he's cooking crap - ertyu ... General Manager of the Year
KCF + Took over a new team, improving their win total by 5 and to a franchise-best 12-4 record and a #2 seed + Made a gutsy play to forgo the early rounds of the S14 draft by acquiring extra draft picks and used those to immediately hit on players in WR Stefon Diggs (56 rec for 683 yards, 6 TDs), SS Vonn Bell (52 tackles, 2 sacks, 3 INTs, 1 FF), and MLB Kyle Kato (48 tackles, 6 sacks, 1 INT, 2 FFs, 2 FRs, 1 def TD) + Activity and adjustments helped make a Bottom 10 offense from a season ago rise to #4 this year and had the defense make further strides from a season ago to finish 11th overall and T-5th in points allowed. - It's me mccheyne + Led the Colts to a 10-6 record and a playoff berth + Got the Colts to finish with the #1 D in the league + Matched DT Dan William's contract offer in RFA who more than doubled his career sack and tripled his career FF totals as he finished with 12 sacks and 3 FFs - His free agency forray was a major bust year one with QB Colin Kaepernick throwing for 11 TDs vs 21 INTs and RG Jonathan Martin leading the league with 17 sacks allowed MegamanX + Made two of the best free agency signings in QB Brian Brohm and DT B.J. Raji whose stories you can see on Comeback Player of the Year + 4th round pick WR Matt Hazel was the 10th WR taken in the draft but finished second among rookies in rec yards with 690 + Led the Falcons to their first non-losing season since S10 despite suffering the second-most injuries and third-most games lost due to injuries this season. - Did not make the playoffs TheKnightOfNee + Led the Lions to an improbable finish and their first playoff appearance since S8 + Had one of the biggest unit turnarounds as the Lions went from a low-20s to the #6 D in the league and the #2 scoring defense (16.5 points allowed per game) + In addition to the defense, the underlying stats peg the Lions as one of the best teams in the league with the #9 O, #9 rushing O, and the #2 turnover differential (+9) - Didn't bring in many impact players through the draft, free agency, or trade VeryInsane + Led the Browns to their first non-losing season since S7 + Traded for SS Jessie Daniels who became a DB of the Year candidate after exploding as a Brown with 53 tackles, 3 sacks, 1 INT, 2 FFs, and 1 FR in less than a half a season + In-Season adjustments helped bring the best out of HB Mark Ingram and WR DeAndre Hopkins who had career years and became award nominees at their respective positions. - Did not make the playoffs --- KCF can't actually be a real person but he is - greengravy If you smell what the rock is cooking he's cooking crap - ertyu ... Playoff Power Rankings
1. Miami Dolphins 2. Dallas Cowboys 3. Minnesota Vikings 4. Washington Redskins 5. Columbus Pioneers 6. Detroit Lions 7. Indianapolis Colts 8. Washington Hawks 9. St. Louis Rams 10. Baltimore Ravens 11. New England Patriots 12. Carolina Panthers While the Dolphins feel down some rankings a bit, they are still in the Top 10 of every major category and have superstars at basically every level of the team. They are also entering the postseason injury free, so they have to be the SB favorites heading in. There are some major red flags with the Cowboys, namely the rate they turn the ball over and inability to create turnovers themselves. Still, I will have to see the Cowboys fall short of the Super Bowl to believe it. The Vikings should be the NFC Super Bowl rep. They are clearly the best team in the conference, but as per usual, the Vikings have lost some people to injury just before the playoffs and will not be having one of the best OLBs in the game throughout it. Not the Panthers nor Hawks but the Redskins finished with the lowest-ranked defense in the playoffs. It was at one point ranked in the Top 10 but ended up 22nd. That is a little bit alarming and probably should knock them down a bit, but I will give them the benefit of the doubt with the mounting injuries they suffered on that side of the ball. HB Ezekiel Elliot didn't take off like I thought he would, but his best games have late in the second half, and the rest of the offense is excellent. More importantly, they've shown they can give the Cowboys a lot of trouble. For a long time, there was a sizable discrepancy between the defense and points allowed for the Pioneers that called into question if they were experiencing bad or good luck. There was some regression to the mean to where their rankings were within a couple spots of each other that basically indicated that the Pioneers have a good defense this season. Pairing that with an elite offense and at least one guaranteed home game give the Pioneers a great shot at their first conference championship and a decent shot at the AFC South's first SB appearance (the seven other divisions have made it to a SB). The Lions have a talent issue that will make it tough to make a deep playoff run, but they are hot, the defense and QB Jared Goff have been consistently steady all season, and HB DeAngelo Williams might be back. This is, imo, their best team since their SB victory in S6, so they could pull off an upset or two. The Colts have a stud, #1 defense that should make any game winnable for them. The problem is their offense that has looked shaky passing the ball and underwhelming running it. Still, that defense is far more of an asset than their offense is a liability, so as long as the defense performs like they did in the regular season, they won't need to ask much out of their offense. If you are looking for a Wild-Card Round division winner to make a deep playoff like the Jags and Raiders in recent years, the Hawks are your team. QB Philip Rivers had a lackluster start to the season but finished strong. HB DeMarco Murray, the league's most prolific runner since he became a starter, is healthy and back to his old self again, and while the defense didn't play to the same level that they have in the past few seasons, it was showing signs of its former self toward the end. The Rams are a hard team to peg. That defense is consistently great, but the offensive has been very inconsistent since their 15-1 season. Ryan Tannehill runs hot and cold, and the running game is oft-injured and non-threatening. With Tannehill coming off of one of his best seasons and new starting HB Eddie Lacy showing signs that he could be their future feature back, perhaps the Rams have a shot at winning multiple playoff games. Losing HB Doug Martin was huge, but the Ravens have actually been offensively okay without him. Sure that isn't a ringing endorsement, but there are worse offenses in the playoffs. The defense has slipped some from the norm, so it is hard for me to place much faith in them with their main offensive identity injured. I was a little tempted to put the Pats higher because they are a different team with HB Dexter McCluster healthy. He missed several games this season, but when he was healthy, he was arguably a Top-5 HB in the league. What worries me is that the defense took a step back this season. They were still pretty good, but their main identity is their punishing defense, but that wasn't quite the case this season. For a sometimes offensively-challenged team, the odds of a deep playoff run, from a wildcard team no less, are low when the defense doesn't pick up the slack and then some. The Panthers were more of the same that you've seen in the post-Socko years with an above-average defense that is stars and scrubs and a poor offense. That's just not going to cut in the playoffs. Fortunately for them, they are playing at home against a team that has been battered all season, so it wouldn't be a total surprise if they win their first game. They just have the worst odds at winning the Super Bowl. --- KCF can't actually be a real person but he is - greengravy If you smell what the rock is cooking he's cooking crap - ertyu ... Stat PMs have been sent to the Lions, Packers, Panthers, and Patriots.
I have the Pumpkins, Washington, Steelers, Titans, and Wildcats remaining. I'm going to have my work cut out for me if I am to get those five sent out before the award ceremony on Discord. That reminds me that there is roughly 15 hours remaining for the deadline to submit award ballots. Including me, we are currently sitting at 11 ballots. --- KCF can't actually be a real person but he is - greengravy If you smell what the rock is cooking he's cooking crap - ertyu ...
