I think Persona 5 wins in gameplay (battles, dungeons) and music. Persona 4 wins in just about everything else.

I only ever played the original versions of both but i think P4 edges it for me.

To me P5 had better social links, gameplay, and protag look. P4 had a better core group (along with their interactions with each other), story, and antagonists.

Gameplay wise P5 made lots of improvements since it had almost been 10 years since P4, but I definitely prefer the story, characters and lots of other stuff from P4 more.

Played P5 and was a little disappointed with it. Thought I just wasn't into the style as much, but then played P4G and loved every second.

P5 is clearly better to me. The story is comparable to me even though the tone is different and the core game elements of P5 are just way better made than 4, which was already very good.

A P4 remake that played like P5 with the same production value would probably be one of if not the best RPG ever made.

I think 5 does a lot of things better than 4, but I like 4 better. 5's confidants are better, it's gameplay is better, and I'd even say its story is better. But its lows are a lot lower than 4's lows. And its main cast isn't nearly as good -- though it's good in its own right. 4's main cast is just phenomenal. The fact that they're even close, when one is a PS2 game released almost a decade earlier, is a major point in P4's favor tbh. They're pretty close still, though.

3's just more of a gameplay rpg - I think 4 and 5 miss the boat when it comes to pacing. sometimes those scenes go on forever. 3 lets me dungeon crawl and social link without all that. also it has a killer tone that even puts p5 to shame, I think.

Id be excited even though the only original VAs they would probably be able to keep are Narukamis, Yosukes and Yukikos.

3 does have an extremely good atmosphere that's superior to 4 and 5. I'd probably put it over 4 depending on how I'm feeling, but nothing in either of the other two games matches January in Persona 3. I respect the 3 pick.

P3's ending is A+ no doubt, but I liked the way P4 handled its theme in the ending. Its peak is November though, not the ending.

Persona 5 screwed up its pacing in September and never got it back.

Persona 5 has severe pacing issues, some of the dungeon design gets annoying in the latter half of the game (whereas P4's dungeons are simple but you get into a groove with them), and the cast/music, while also really damng great, is just less memorable overall. P4 wins but both games are great and share the same core strengths.

3 is significantly worse than both. Tartarus isn't a very compelling dungeon and it's the only one in the game. The story just has less going on for most of its runtime though some of the characters are admittedly fantastic. The non-P3P versions have AI controlled party members and P3P is significantly worse in terms of presentation. I'm very lucky I decided not to drop the series after that game since it was my first Persona.

I tried playing the PSP version of P1 and it was really mediocre. Couldn't finish it. And I say that as someone who enjoys the rest of the SMT franchise.

The two 2s are supposed to be actually good.

Yeah i tried the original on PSP and stopped early on. Never actually tried 2.

I have tried on 4 occasions to get more than a dozen hours into 3 and failed every time.
