South Korea and the USA both had their first confirmed case on the same day and they've had under 200 deaths compared to our >12,000. The current state of things was not inevitable and could have been avoided.

We'll never know, but I would agree with that. However, if it WAS better, then people would still be bitching about it on here.

Hypothetically, Obama gives the hospitals all they need, they shut down things quicker, whatever there needs to be done to prevent it from spreading. And it wouldn't, a lot of people would be safe

But then you would have people saying Obama wasted all of this money and time when there was nothing wrong. Look, nobody got sick. They blew it out of proportion. Fuck Obama!

Obama wouldn't have disbanded the National Security Council unit focused on pandemic preparedness.

Trump pretty much got rid of the fire department and then watched as a fire descended upon his house. Only taking action once his house was on fire.

https://www.politico.com/news/2020/03/25/trump-coronavirus-national-security-council-149285

Is there sufficient personal protective equipment for healthcare workers who are providing medical care? the playbook instructs its readers, as one early decision that officials should address when facing a potential pandemic. If YES: What are the triggers to signal exhaustion of supplies? Are additional supplies available? If NO: Should the Strategic National Stockpile release PPE to states?

The Trump administration was briefed on the playbooks existence in 2017, said four former officials, but two cautioned that it never went through a full, National Security Council-led interagency process to be approved as Trump administration strategy. Tom Bossert, who was then Trumps homeland security adviser, expressed enthusiasm about its potential as part of the administrations broader strategy to fight pandemics, two former officials said.
Bossert declined to comment on any particular document, but told POLITICO that I engaged actively with my outgoing counterpart and took seriously their transition materials and recommendations on pandemic preparedness.

Italy is actually very comparable to Trump. They too had a president who was a famous, evil, corrupt billionaire who treated government as his personal wealth-gaining tool.

Very astute of you to see, TC.

Berlusconi wasn't a moron though, so there are also some differences.

South Korea: Aggressively utilized WHO tests to track the spread of coronavirus

United States: Refused WHO tests, so that a Kushner company could make them instead. Country is at a massive shortage of test kits

Not sure how a mod perpetuates false claims that the US refused WHO tests when it wasn't even offered in the first place.

https://www.factcheck.org/2020/03/biden-trump-wrong-about-who-coronavirus-tests/
To our knowledge, no discussions occurred between WHO and CDC (or other USG agencies) about WHO providing COVID-19 tests to the US, WHO spokesperson Tarik Jasarevic told us in an emailed statement. This is consistent with experience since the US does not ordinarily rely on WHO for reagents or diagnostic tests because of sufficient domestic capacity.
And during a CNN/Facebook town hall on March 19, Mike Ryan, the executive director of the WHOs Health Emergencies Programme, also debunked the notion.
WHO developed the tests mainly to support countries with weaker health systems, he said, noting that the U.S. has a fabulous scientific system and a wonderful capacity to develop tests. So no, we did not offer the tests to the U.S., which would be standard practice, he added. If we were asked, obviously, we would have responded.

Or thinking that South Korea even used WHO test kits

On December 31, the first news reached South Korea of a cluster of coronavirus infections in Wuhan. Seegenes chief executive Chun Jong-yoon, 63, was already anticipating the worst, as the risk of a global outbreak was high. Chun immediately ceased all other work at his Seoul-based biotech firm, Seegene, and ordered his lead researcher and staff to focus entirely on producing a diagnostic kit for the Covid-19. Development needed to be very fast, Chun says. Before the situation became more serious, we had to be prepared.
In two weeks Seegene had developed its test, the Allplex 2019-nCoV Assay. On January 27, following the first confirmed case in South Korea, Chun received an urgent call from the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC); the agency requested the testing kit for review and soon learned that Seegenes development process aligned closely with the guidelines of the KCDC.
On February 12, the KCDC approved Seegenes kit for use. Such go-aheads typically take at least six months; European health authorities gave approval five days earlier. It was an urgent matter so it was important to respond quickly, Chun says. The fact that the KCDC approved this in two weeks was unprecedented.

Legislation enacted since then gave the government authority to collect mobile phone, credit card, and other data from those who test positive to reconstruct their recent whereabouts. That information, stripped of personal identifiers, is shared on social media apps that allow others to determine whether they may have crossed paths with an infected person.
After the novel coronavirus emerged in China, Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) raced to develop its tests and cooperated with diagnostic manufacturers to develop commercial test kits. The first test was approved on 7 February, when the country had just a few cases, and distributed to regional health centers.

WHO test kits are only for poor countries with dysfunctional healthcare systems.
South Korea managed to get a hold of the situation because people actually comply with government (the whole Eastern Asian collectivist personality + having the economy ****** by MERS (and other viral outbreaks like african swine and avian flus) in the past vs. western individualism)
