like the rest of the series, it's a good watch.

also like the rest of the series, I recognize the behaviour described from a lot of people on here:
-a refusal to think about things as systemic issues
-treating systemic problems as though they are immutable facts of life that have always existed and always will exist, despite evidence to the contrary

does the video include the part where all bernie supporters who don't participate in warned generals are actually closeted trump supporters? oh and dedicating time to criticize trump's policies and how he's endangering lives and link to videos from liberal pundits no one on the right has ever heard of?

or is that covered in the later chapters

If anything Garfield is a regressive leftist.
Hes unemployed and feels entitled to the world for existing and doesnt care where the lasagna comes from as long as it comes.

How is that a leftist notion? Red states require most aid after all. I don't think entitled laziness is a party trait.

watched 8 min of the video before i had to shut it off to sit on a call, he makes some good points (big one to me is as you said, how people treat bad things as immutable facts of life & not problems to change).

however i think this guy falls into the same trap a lot of "extremely online" people do, ultimately hes arguing with himself and his perception of how other ppl think. you see this right off the bat with that weird skit he does about the office breakroom, it's like the guy has never been in a real-life conversation before

I find the repeated emphasis on gun control specifically kind of interesting for this kind of thing, given it splits the left at best (most leftists I know are very anti-gun control, but I admit that could be anecdotal). Maybe its just because of who posted it but I expected a less liberal slant

Most leftists who are against gun control, are against gun control because they want the populace to be able to defend itself against the state, but that doesn't mean that the problem of gun violence isn't objectively softened by gun control. He's attacking conservative positions from a purely (attempted) objective stance, not merely ideological.

the thing at the start is kinda contrived, yes. but it wasn't intended to be a realistic portrayal of a monday-morning office conversation. it was only to set up the analogy -- though he definitely could have done it in a shorter amount of time.

I don't think he's really arguing though -- he's educating, and the things he's saying seem to be true, at least anecdotally.

yeah that's fair -- there are lots of other issues he could have used to illustrate the same point, and gun control is... definitely a point of contention among leftists.

I think the other person addressed it pretty well though -- the problem of gun violence is addressed by stricter gun control, and he's not attacking conservative talking points from an ideological perspective

Agreed. Its a pretty illuminating look at the conservative mindset, compared to a...um, more capable of critical thinking mindset? And certainly makes me want to think about my own worldview.

While in this series all the ideas and strategies are presented as alt-right/conservative, I'm not sure they're all exclusively that. So yeah I think in a broader sense it's interesting just that he puts words on these tropes

  1. I actually like Mondays.
  2. Not particularly related to the video, but I find "new guy" to be equally annoying for activating payroll guy as I do payroll guy, but maybe that's an internal sort of resignation to the existence of payroll guy.
  3. It felt like there were really two theses mashed together here: There's the conversation about punishment over prevention (and the extensions of that) and there's the original idea of these issues being like Mondays.
  4. The idea of a Christian Atheist was interesting to me, since this is what I've often seen in CE (and other very online) conservatives.
I'm going to watch some of the other videos in this series.
