Huh, how about that? I recall seeing that when I was too young to read. I'm glad I learned what movie it was about five years ago. Another one that I had been trying to find for years was Footroot Flats. It's comedic but not childish, with a few dark and dramatic moments. One that comes to mind is when the main character (a dog) freaks out when the bone he finds in his steel barrel/dog house is a (strikingly accurate depiction of a) clean-picked cow skull. I haven't seen it, either, but if one is looking for animated movies, it seems like something worth keeping in mind! And while we're on the subject of obscure animated films that are older than the 70s and 80s, might as well go the whole distance: the earliest surviving animated feature is The Adventures of Prince Achmed, from 1926, and its on Blu-ray and probably available for streaming somewhere.
