Dude donated 10 Billion for climate change
100 million for food

And each response is that he should pay taxes instead. It's not his fault in how the current tax law is written.

Nobody needs a net worth of more than $10k. Everything over that should be seized by the government and redistributed to those of us unwilling to work.

The thing people like that don't refuse to understand is that net worth isn't the money you have in the bank ready to be withdrawn.

They look stupid every time but even though people explain every time, they usually get downvoted on a site like reddit and they basically just wasted their time trying to educate others.

ill break it down. its a combo of cognitive dissonance and justification of that dissonance

belief: I think all rich people are bad evil people who do not care about anyone else and clearly these rich people believe others are only there to be exploited. Also, I personally am a very moral person.

real life: bezos is a rich person. bezos donated lots of money

cognitive dissonance kicks in: how can I believe that all rich people are bad evil people who do not care about others, while at the same time handling the fact that bezos donated more money than ill ever make in my life to do good, thus doing more good than myself, even though I am a moral person according to the belief above.

justification: bezos is still evil because he did not donate enough percentage of his money. this is the true gauge of morality. if only i had more money i would be donating way more of a percentage because I am very moral.

So much of CE is so fucking bitter than even when legitimate help is being extended to the less fortunate that they might have not got otherwise, CE still cries about the wealthy.

You're not supposed to announce or brag how much you give anyway.

It could be seen as self gratifying than honest charity.

Because they don't understand that net worth isn't how much cash someone had access to

And also don't understand that charities and researchers appreciate and can do far more with .01% of a billionaire's net worth than 100% of an average person's net worth

Nobody donated 40$ out of their only 60$. But you are factually giving up way more of your lifestyle if you do. Your future would change drastically, compared to someone being able to completely carry on as usual. If you only had 60$ in total, giving away 40$ would create so much more struggle for you.

When it comes to giving and the amount of good it will do, your personal struggle means NOTHING. If you are giving your all and it doesnt come to a lot, thats great. You are helping. But when you try to downplay someone giving more than 10 generations of your family could ever possibly give, youre being a weenie.

Apparently people think that all that matters is how much % of your wealth you donate. Funny part is if you ask them how much percentage would be fair they always dodge the question because they know it's unreasonable to think that way but don't want to admit they are wrong.

Also a lot of the people who shit on someone like Bezos for "not doing enough" more than likely haven't donated a dime.

Ok. That different than what I was talking about, but ok. Of course your struggle doesn't make your money worth more. I was never debating that

I also appreciate what they do, but turning a blind eye to other motives is silly too

they're not getting mad when he donates money. they are typically pointing out one or more of several possible things:
1. philanthropy is less effective than paying taxes and having adequately funded social programs
2. they get tax exemptions for many of these donations, thereby contributing to problem 1.
3. because their donations are frequently given through their own charitable organizations, they have a much greater degree of control over where the money goes. this, again, contributes further to problem 1.
4. there are only a few reasons why wealthy people make donations like this; tax breaks and increased control are two of them.
the third reason is optics: it makes them look good. as shown clearly in this topic, there are many people who incorrectly assume the donation is due to benevolence.

so which of those are you interpreting as "get[ting] mad"?
