Turns out I have a lot of Steam games, and I actually had the attention span to enjoy some platformers. I swear, there's something having access to the internet does to your brain that makes platformers boring.

Turns out my internet did work and my cable is just broken.

I recommend it, but I know I could never do it again unless I was forced.

Traumatizing. All the things I couldn't just look up on the spot!

About once a year, I voluntarily go a week without doing Internet stuff. It's usually quite productive.

Are you suggesting Steam has a functional offline mode? How novel. @DPsx7

The few times I've been without internet lately I realized that I have this massive backlog of movies, games, etc, but didn't want to watch or play any of it.

I think he was mistaken because it doesn't. Honestly until I read about the broken cable I was expecting a story of how disappointing it is to buy digital and realize you have no access if the internet goes down.

What's wrong with platformers though? They're one of my faves.

I once had internet down for a month before the ISP was able to get someone to fix it. That sucked. I still had games, but couldn't play them all the time.

Ended up having a nice yell at the company support because they were still quite happy to charge me for that month of no service.

You can keep Steam in offline mode for years (or forever) and still play your games. I have almost all 400 of my games installed. I can't imagine the hassle it would be dealing with 400 CDs. I guess it would be easier seeing how only 20 or so of my games even exist on a CD.

Some games have online only DRM... but Steam actually has nothing to do with that.

That's kinda like my story. The dreaded day I allowed Steam on my PC was around the same time broadband was new to the area. Outages weren't unexpected, least not to the point I'd have called support. Minutes or hours, not a month. I complained to Valve and the best the F'ers could do was block my account. What service...

It was the first time I wasn't 'allowed' to play a game I purchased offline giving me the dislike I have for Steam or digital games in general. Steam seriously got me out of PC gaming.

Your stories are works of fiction though. About how Steam is a literal virus, how they have no offline, etc. No basis in truth.

Steam has flaws, but you are too busy claiming bullshit as truth to pay attention to the real issues with it.

It's all fact. I lived it. What benefit is there to lie? It shares the same traits as a virus. Installs without asking (I only chose HL2 itself and had the disc). Phones home for 'updates' all the time. Prevents normal use of my software. And it wasn't that easy to completely eliminate from my HDD.
