I keep like a year's worth of expenses on hand in addition to my actual long-term savings.

People are out of work and having a really hard time and I just spent like two grand on toys and workout stuff so I wouldn't be bored.

I worked hard to get where I am but it's still a weird feeling.

I feel fortunate as well. Hopefully you're helping out or donating where you can. I've been leaving delivery and to-go order/curbside pickup folks extra (I've always been a 20% tipper to begin with, unless the service is observably the waiter's lack of care)

If you want something to blame for feeling bad to have actual stuff saved for things, then be angry at this weird loan and debt-based society we've been in for ages, and of course, the fact that its gotten a lot worse the past couple generations.

Its at a point where you actually are almost penalized if you never actually use money that isn't already yours.

I don't have that much money but I have a stable job for the road ahead, a comfortable place to live, and thousands in savings even after the market took a nosedive. I don't feel guilty though because my job is entirely dedicated to helping people who are unemployed. If anything I should be paid more for what I do, especially now.

They won't understand this. The majority of them come from well enough off families and had no other worries but working and paying bills. Assuming the only reason people are poor is because they're either stupid or not working hard enough.

People playing a video game on easy and wondering why someone is struggling to play the game on hard.

That said, don't feel bad about working hard and receiving what you deserve. Just don't pretend that everyone who's struggling has the same path to success as you.

I have a shelve with over one grand of amiibo and I have another grand ready to waste on the PS5. I haven't even done my taxes because I don't want to deal with the paper work I'll probably wait till July since it got extended. I don't need money, this virus isn't affecting me at all. I've been poor most of my life and have only just recently become financially stable. It feels a bit weird to me as well, so I'm focusing on it as an opportunity to help family/friends who are definitely going to need it. I can get by for about a year without working (meager living, not big time income lol) and initially decided to forego picking up any jobs until this blew over but I got some great opportunities I couldn't pass up specifically because I want to be able to be there for others.

Im still working, but far from rich and have a kid and wife. Wife is out of a job for, but we do have a lil bit in savings that coupled with the stimulus and my money will hopefully get us through this unscathed.

Still I feel grateful for still being able to bring an income without exposing myself to danger and have donated 10 bucks here and there to people in need and non profits that serve food to elderly and needy.

You should too?

I do too, but for other reasons. My dad died and he had life insurance, that to go along with my mom and brother's SSD and I have no reason to work during any of this. Then again I live a simple life, I probably won't even have to touch the money I got from my dad.

I'm still getting my full paycheck and actually spending less money since I'm stuck inside. What I've been doing is just trying to support restaurants by ordering take out and delivery then tipping generously no matter if I pick up or have it delivered. It's not a lot, but it's something.

I have enough on hand for probably several months if I had to without any income, and I have better than a year's buffer in credit limits available.

Don't feel too bad; some of one's ability to save money boils down to circumstance, but a lot of it is choice. I'm a single dad of two with this much fallback; I know many people who make more than me who don't have an extra $200 to fall back on, and a lot of it, if it isn't due to medical stuff, ends up boiling down to fiscal irresponsibility.

Dont feel bad for others lack of planning or preparedness. Ive been dirt broke, lower middle class and upper middle class in my lifetime. One thing I have learned from all 3 situations is to never live above your means and save what you can.

Covid-19 has shown that a lot of people just dont plan understand this. Dont get two $600 a month car loans and $1500 house loan if you cant afford it. Dont spend 90% of your monthly income on bills. Purchase within your means, we arent all movie stars.

"Don't live above your means" should be taught in schools.

I have a co-worker who makes a touch less than me hourly, she and her husband (same company, more $$$) got her a new vehicle ($850 a month, ouch) and them a new house ($1000ish) while the overtime was good.. now she works a second job so they can avoid missing payments.

I have a buddy who makes close to 50% more than me hourly; he started innocently enough with car payments but continually jacked around and got late so often that his latest hail Mary of an auto loan has him paying $500+ a month for his SUV and the only reason he isn't being evicted from his house this month is covid.
