The games I'm most excited for are FFVIIR and Tales of Arise (which I haven't heard much news about lately)

Is this supposed to be Dragon Quest XI?

I played the Trails of Cold Steel 3 demo and wound up really liking it despite the fact that my first impression of the game was baaaaaaaad.

I know the characters will probably bore/annoy me, but that battle system looks like a lot of fun to play with. Im definitely getting that if I ever find it 50% off

Dude, Im hyped too.

The gameplay they showed forever ago looks a little slow, but Im holding my breath that the full game will be snappier.

It better be, Im planning on getting it Day 1

Lemme know when you play FFXII! I streamed that like a year or two ago and even though it was my second play through of it, it was still fun!

I know most people dont pay them any mind, but I really really enjoy my JRPG playthrough threads. I know I had a decent following when I did Tales of Graces f a few years ago, but people gave me lots of advice and even when they didnt, I enjoyed hearing their thoughts.

If you like JRPGs, you're not a weeb. You're just somebody who likes JRPGs.

Don't embrace the slur. :-P

Ive been like that twice.

Tales of Vesperia brought me back into the genre in 2011, when I hadnt really been gaming at all. Oh! What a summer of my junior year of high school that was! I have 1000 hours on it.

I had just gotten a switch in 2017, but was already losing interest waiting for Smash. Xenoblade 2, flaws and all, ruined a LOT of JRPGs for me. To the point where I compare other games cutscene choreography and animation quality to it. Most dont compare. The Xenoblade animators really are talented, and Im beyond psyched to see what they bring to the table for XB Definitive (my first time playing that game)

If its anything like the sequel, Im going to absolutely spend over 200 hours on it.

The issue is, right now, I need a nice meaty JRPG to keep me satisfied. Persona 5 was very good in terms of battle mechanics, and I enjoyed building up my relationships and Persona lineup, but it didnt quite... hit me the way ToV or XB2 or FF7/9 did.

Funny enough Tales of Vesperia was the game that kinda put a hiatus on JRPGs for me. I waited a decade to play, and wow, I was disappointed. Probably showed how much my gaming taste had changed since the late 2000s.

I love JRPGs myself. Dragon Quest XI (assuming that is what you meant) is great as is SMT. FFXII... I enjoy certain characters (Balthier, Ashe) a lot, but I never really got into the game as a whole, so I haven't bought the remake yet. Every once in a while I consider it, but that game is the start of Square's attempts to marry real time and turn based and failing at both. Personally, I feel like Persona and Octopath Traveler proves they were fixing a problem that doesn't exist, but I like turn based games so I'm biased.

On a plus side the combat for FFVII remake demo seems to indicate they've got that combat thing down now.

Vesperia is wonderful as well, since it's been mentioned. So glad I finally got to play it. Fire Emblem is great if you like strategy. The Switch has really great rpgs. Lots of JRPGs: Octopath, Vesperia, Dragon Quest, FE, Ni no Kuni, Tokyo Mirage sessions, upcoming SMT game, SaGa games, upcoming Bravely Ddfault 2, the World Ends With You, etc.. Plus it has Child of Light which feels like a jrpg and Transistor which is not Japanese, but a lot of fun

You really should look into the Nihon Falcom lineup of jrpgs.

Particularly the Trails in the Sky and the Trails of Cold Steel series.

Also, if you're a fan of of more action oriented jrpgs, Ys 8: Lacrimosa of Dana is an EXCELLENT game on the switch. (It's also on the PS4 and Steam).

Really, any of the Ys games would worth looking into, along with the Trails series, if you're serious about jrpgs.
