So, from what I understand, the original plan was The Fiend to go over Goldberg in the UT match, but Goldberg lobbied for himself to win because he's a superhero and it would look bad for his image to lose to Wyatt. Bray apparently wasn't happy with this but eventually agreed to put Goldberg over (which might explain him dead-weighting Goldberg on the Jackhammer, or just that Goldberg is too fucking old to do the move). But Goldberg refused to add any more dates past WM and has no intention to, so he absolutely had to drop the belt at WM and at one point they were considering Jeff Hardy.

What a clusterfuck.

Putting over the Fiend certainly wouldn't have hurt his image more than that infamous turd match him and Taker had.

I don't buy any of that shit. The excuse of "Roman is everything" makes way more sense. My guess is they paid him a shit ton more money to drop it to Strowman on short notice so they didn't look even worse.

I mean, if it is true, then Vince is even stupider than we think, because he loves controlling all "independent contractors" on his roster to a tee, yet will let certain people (old school part timers) dictate creative control because "Why the fuck not."

The whole system is just broken beyond repair. "Grab the brass ring, but only if we tell you, and only if you have proven above the system to the point where I'll cut you slack." i.e. superstar treament

Except the superstars only show up 2-3 games, rather than the entire season AND to the detriment of the actual paying customers. What a world.

Well, assuming what is being reported is true, it was booked to get Fiend over more by having him beat Goldberg. But then they caved to Goldberg anyway and created their own problems.

You know, I have never not even once been impressed by Britt Baker in the ring, but her match with Hikaru Shida was legitimately outstanding. I know a lot of it has to do with Shida being outstanding, but I honestly think Britt did a tremendous job on her end too.

Okay so holy shit

WWE chairman Vince McMahon made the decision Friday to return to live programming with Raw every Monday, NXT every Wednesday, and SmackDown every Friday from the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.

The decision to not do tapings all weekend as was previously scheduled came during the middle of the day while taping SmackDown as McMahon announced he was changing everything and that the show would be going as close to live as soon as possible.

While that was not the plan Thursday, it was something he was considering all along, hence why we were specifically told yesterday to make sure and say that plan was the current one.

Many in the company were shocked at the decision. Those close to the situation have defended it and that it was the correct economic decision even if every decision, and even running at all, has to be questioned right now.

Contracts with both NBC Universal and Fox call for a certain number of shows per year that can be taped. For Raw, that number is three which, at the start of the year, was earmarked for one show over Christmas week and two shows during European tours. In theory, that would leave them with 49 live Raws. Fox has a similar deal.

While nobody will say so publicly, the fear was that by violating the contract, it would give the networks the legal ability to withhold money or find a way to change the deals. With no house shows, the company, like all sports companies, is surviving largely based on television revenue, but the networks paying that are also taking in far less revenue than they projected at this point in time due to the pandemic.

Honestly Britt the way she worked the injury into the match was a legit veteran savvy move and she move than held her own.

I mean, the idea that Fox would have signed that deal without any outs is crazy, and one of the most basic ones probably is that Smackdown will be live.

So a lot of this depends on what Fox wants to do now.

On one hand, I can't imagine that they haven't reached out and said "Okay, due to extenuating circumstances of the pandemic..."

On the other hand, I can see them having smacked their hand away after that and, due to being pissed off that they thought they'd be getting Ronda and Lesnar constantly, and the lower ratings than they expected, and they said "Oh, well... due to the extenuating circumstances of the pandemic....... we may need to change our agreement."
