Last night's cloture vote... which you just said you knew about!

As I said it ended up 47-47 (48-46 before McConnell flipped to no to preserve a procedural maneuver that allowed him to have today's re-vote.)

The 6 non-voting Senators were the 5 Republican Senators in self-quarantine and Sanders. Today's vote was the result of the procedural maneuver McConnell left open for himself with last night's vote.

So as you said, he was missing for yesterday's vote, and also the negotiations behind it because he was too busy livestreaming with the Squad.

You're correct that it wouldn't have changed the outcome, but he should have been there and it's a more consequential case of being "missing" than all of this "where's Biden" shit.

There's some weird rule where McConnell ending on a "no" vote (despite originally voting yes, they can switch votes until it locks in) allowed him to make that reconsideration motion. If he had stayed a yes vote the vote would have still failed because cloture requires 60 votes, but he wouldn't have been able to motion for the reconsideration vote.

He also wanted to make it a gimmick vote and interrupt the normal order of the Senate to hold the vote 15 minutes after the markets opened today and got mad when Schumer rejected that part (I assume he needed unanimous consent to place the vote there instead of around 1 PM when it happened)

and i mean no one is saying his vote would have changed it. you just said you were "not sure what LotM is referring to" so I told you!

you guys are way too hostile to lotm. i disagree with him on much of the same policy lines you do but the venom really comes out for him from a lot of the topic

Yeah, but I think it's a bad look particularly after he sounded off on reporters the other day when they asked him about his campaign and he told them he was dealing with a "fucking global crisis" and wouldn't answer their questions about it. You can say his livestreams are talking to that but he's one of only 100 people in the country in the Senate and like... that's his job. >_>

You want to say Biden should be doing more/doing what Sanders has been doing, fine. But I don't think "he was livestreaming about coronavirus!" is a good defense here. The Senate is a broken institution, yeah, but like... think you gotta be there for this. To go to the extreme hypothetical to make the generalized case that there are indeed times where you "have to" be there, his vote wouldn't have changed the impeachment trial results so would it have been cool if he skipped out to livestream talking about that?

This is just a fundamental disagreement about what "the Democrats" should be doing, I guess.

I said it last week, but they need to be AHEAD of this. If the media narrative takes hold that "Republicans want to give you money, Democrats want to play politics" then that's going to be extremely bad.

Bernie being there yesterday wouldn't have changed anything, and impeachment isn't comparable because for a second it seemed like the results were tenuous. Before the vote yesterday, the Democrats had already said the Republican's plan was unacceptable.

nah, that's not a "trump has killed" thing, that's people being dumb. they're the ones who ate the fish cleaner. drugs are measured in milligrams, they had multiple grams worth of it, they poisoned themselves with stupidity and not even thinking about dosage levels.

you could probably pull it off but if you're gonna do a home cocktail then you check how much. these people clearly didn't. hell, we're using that drug in NY now - are you gonna say Cuomo is killing people for it too? there's plenty to blame trump on but people's stupidity for taking ridiculous dosage levels of a drug ain't one of them.

i still wouldn't personally but at least i'd understand that more. however i'd still have to say that's if they took the actual supply meant for humans, the pills, and not literally a cleaning supply for fish shit. even then, the medicine would tell you the limit (e.g., take one every 6 hours) and if you go past it, that starts going on you. it's not the Advil's or the doctor's fault if i take 1600mg of ibuprofen in 6 hours, that's on me.

if someone buys fish cleaner, or frankly any cleaner, for human consumption i fully put that on the person themselves. like i'm sure it's doable, just like a few droplets of chlorine can be good for water, but that doesn't mean you drink from the gallon. there's a line where personal stupidity outweighs everything else, eating cleaning supplies sounds like a pretty clear one.
