no, it probably won't be enough but it strongly cuts against your cuckoo theory that the government is out to bankrupt society because of... reasons?
Do you think a $1000 check is going to magically stop places from shutting their doors? If this only lasts for a few weeks, we might get lucky. But the other half of the solution is to lift the ban before the damage is irreparable.

I will GLADLY admit that I overreacted if everything (save large entertainment venues) is allowed to reopen by April 1st AND wage workers are compensated.

He's worried about all the people who are living paycheck to paycheck and can't afford to lose a month of earnings without going broke and starving to death.

The answer would be yes except that when people are on the edge of survival they are quite resourceful in surviving. That means doing things like taking out loans at 500% interest that will keep you in poverty for a long time.

The virus has something like a 1% mortality rate with treatment, and probably more like 3-5% without treatment (which would be the relevant number for the vast majority of people if most of the country got it because we'd overwhelm the hospital system, which would also pretty much doom whoever else needed life saving treatment it in the meantime). Without control measures, each person infects something like 2.5 people on average, which means it will grow exponentially until being stopped by heard immunity when something like 60% of the population has been infected. It doesn't take a genius to understand that that's really fucking bad!

This disease is literally 100 times deadlier than the swine flu, and as contagious. If the same number of people get the cornovirus 50 million people would die. If the low end estimate of 40% of Americans get it, with the low end estimates of 2% mortality rate, that means 2 millions Americans will die. Meaning it will kill 4 times as many Americans as the swine flu killed total. Are you really not getting why this is a big deal?

That's not mentioning that if the healthcare system is overburdened like Italy the mortality rate will skyrocket. It's currently at about 7% there. Also don't forget that it also means hospitals won't have the ability to treat really anyone else properly, so more people will die.

Unchecked and with a limitless healthcare system 2-3 million Americans will die. In the real world, with a healthcare system that will quickly be overwhelmed, we are talking 5 million essily.

I'm sorry, but your personal freedoms aren't worth it. You're not that special.

Yes because 4 million slaves were freed as a result.

For it to equal out you would need to be saving 10-20 million Americans by doing nothing to prevent the spread of the disease.
