This is the angriest and most helpless I have ever felt in my life.

I live in New York City, which apparently has deemed that its mayor has the right to shut down private businesses for as long as he wants for the sake of the "public good." I no longer want to live in a place whose government can--unilaterally--choose to ruin the lives of its constituents like this.

The helpless part comes in that the rest of the country seems to have lost its mind too--banning public gatherings, declaring lockdowns, even hinting at martial law.

Board 8ers live around the country and the globe. Is there anyone right now in a place that is not currently overrun by authoritarians? Anywhere that actually respects freedom and the values of the Constitution? I'm not trolling, I am not exaggerating. I genuinely want to live somewhere that will not abuse their authority and will allow individuals and small business owners to make their own decisions.

Don't look at any blue state. More importantly, stay away from cities. Take your savings from your NYC job and buy a ranch in Wyoming or Utah. Plenty of space = low risk of disease spreading = less shutdowns.

Also, since you live in NYC, I don't know if you have a car, as many well-off New Yorkers don't. If you don't have a car, get one (a gasoline car). You will instantly feel much better, knowing that you can just drive away, even if they shut down airports or public transportation.

This. Utah is incredible. Staunchly conservative too so you won't have to worry about liberals running government. Vegas is pretty much shut down right now though.

These are all under the assumption that mortality rates are high relative to how many people get tested. But, as with any major disease, they will drop dramatically once we get a better understanding of how many people are asymptomatic or have coronavirus without a positive test for it (and that is likely most people).

The whole world has gone mad.

Millions of people are being put out of work by the government. Many of their lives are utterly destroyed. Thousands will die (look up the correlation between unemployment and mortality). That is all a direct consequence of harmful human decisions by the ruling elite.

There is no world in which a more restrained reaction would result in more destruction and death than this.

I'm not saying that there is some sinister conspiracy. I am saying that the state is acting irrationally and making terrible decisions. I thought we had a country that would protect us from this kind of rule, but I guess it was all a lie.
