Maybe it's because I was in the midwest but my life was definitely not "shut down" by 9/11. We didnt even stop classes for the day.

I remember a lot of mourning and sadness and fear and patriotism but 90% of stuff in my life kept going.

This. The day of 9/11 itself was disrupted but we weren't send home or anything. By the 12th it was mostly business as usual.

Coronavirus is already much more disruptive, and it has the potential to have much worse aftereffects than 9/11

The biggest disruption related to 9/11 would probably be all commercial airliners were grounded for several days following the event, then it was back to business again. Also, schools in the New York City area were closed immediately following the event, though I'm not sure if the school closures were extended to the rest of New York state.

UPDATE - The virus has now cost more American lives than 9/11.

Very soon it will even have cost more New York City lives.

Add the 7K from the Iraq and Afghan wars. A ton more than that in suicides too. But fortunately suicides don't grow exponentially so corona will win eventually.

I've heard nineteen years of "Support our troops," war-related protests, and political campaigns based on the decisions around 9/11 VS two weeks of "Working at home's okay but it's not like SUPERB -- it's still WORK, you know?" and it's delaying me from getting a new vehicle. It's too early and too different to compare well.

9/11 has my thought at the moment. I think a lot of the long-term impact from the Coronavirus will be prevention measures, which ideally we just so rarely notice going forward. I'm not familiar with diseases defining generations as much as wars have.

Still though, never seen this before. It's wild, in a passively homebound kind of way.

I don't see how you can even make an argument for 9/11 at this point. And it's still gonna get worse.

9/11 had more implications when you think about it.

The Anti-Muslim sentiment for the past 20 years for example. That's more subtle than just numbers going up on a screen(coronavirus)
