If it wasn't bad enough with ass holes out there buying up all the nonsense to screw people over, now the stores are slashing their hours so I can't go after work and enjoy relative peace. FFS I'm hoping this is the apocalypse because after this is all over with nothing to show for it I'm going to be even more pissed about this nonsense.

Odd choice, IMO. The whole strategy of this pandemic is to limit large groups of people from convening. By doing this, theyd be forcing people who shop at the sparsest traffic hours to go during more congested times, and adding to the number of people at any given moment.

Exactly I'm baffled.

Walmart all across the nation is 6am-11pm now
Kroger might be 7am - 9pm

It seems like they're trying to make this worse.

If I had to guess, its because a lot of people went into hoard & hibernate mode. Now that they have all their stuff, there could be an overall downturn in business, so they are cutting hours to cut expenses.

I went to Walmart at midnight thinking that maybe it'd be slow and they'd have been restocking shit. Nope. Still had assloads of people and the shelves were pretty much barren. Plenty of jolly rancher cereal though.

I never had to work at walmart overnight(latest I was there was 11pm), but I've heard stories of people loading up carts with stuff and running out with them. Who is going to stop you? the 9 employees in the whole store on overnight skeleton crew or the literal one person patrolling the entire front end, who has zero loss prevention powers?

In my mind closing at 11PM makes sense, based on some of the stories I have been told. But I don't know for real what the reasoning was.
I worked over nights at walmart around 10 years ago, on the weekend it stayed busy till around 12:30.

There was also cops there most of the time too. Theft is always a problem at every retail store though, people always ready to grab something expensive and bust out an emergency exit.

I deleted that because I realized it didnt have much relevance to this topic.

Theft is a problem, but when you have one person covering the entire front end from like midnight-6am, at least at my store, carts are going to be stuff to the gills going out the door. and it happened. As far as ive been told.

My store is cutting hours but employees are still working their usual shifts. For us it's just so we can get things in order because the store is completely trashed. Guys can't even pack out water or paper without being swarmed.

I went to Walmart at midnight thinking that maybe it'd be slow and they'd have been restocking s***. Nope. Still had assloads of people and the shelves were pretty much barren. Plenty of jolly rancher cereal though.

I learned that at my store, no one wants Apple Jacks or Golden Crisps.

I'm so screwed, at least I got some supplies a few days ago. Winco near me was my plan, but it's cut it's hours and closes at midnight now.

The other day, before everything got crazy, it was already as crowded at 1am as oo the weekend normally. Now....with the store closed at night, it's gonna be batshit crazy.

I'm gonna try one more shot at getting food delivered from safeway, it wouldn't go through yesterday. Maybe I can get it to work today.

Oh man, I'm so screwed :(

I tried to place an order through safeway....earliest delivery date is March 24:(

I can't even order that far in advance at this point.

I'm gonna have to try and sneak into a store in the morning I guess and hope I don't get sick.

My Walmart is still 24 hours, and after several weeks of them cutting hours, suddenly everyone is back on 40 again. That, though, has less to do with the pandemic scare and more with our new temp store manager seeing how much wasn't getting done by cutting third shifts hours (since we do 70% of the stocking) and reversing our former manager's directive to cut hours.

That probably wasn't as clear as I could have made it, but I just woke up.

The Winco I usually hit up after work on Saturday for the weekly grocery haul currently has a line of people in front of it.

News articles say Wincos have gone from 24 hours to 5am-midnight, but it was well over 5am and the store wasn't open

If this keeps up, it wont be long before Walmart sees this kind of action followed by the smaller supermarkets ._.

Y'all should hit up your local grocers if your area has them. Shout out to supermercados and Asian markets.

Once our Wal-mart was the only major grocer in the area, they went from 24hr to a 6AM to midnite store. That was late 2018 or early 2019 .

The Meijer in the neighboring county we frequent was slighty more busy than the usual Sat.morning traffic. My wife did call first to make sure they got their usual 6AM truck before we made the trip.

Went to IHOP before Meijer and they had removed all the condiments from the tables and brought out any thing you needed in those little plastic single serve cups. The wait staff also were wearing plastic gloves.
