The ones that immediately come to mind are Fortnite and Minecraft. No reasonable person is picking either to make it to a division final, unless banking on a rally.

Skyrim also is probably underrated, though it likely has a path to the finals depending on how sff swings.

Are there any others that are majorly underrated only in the backwards world of gamegaqs? (So not your favorite game that isn't a major contender in the grand scheme of things.)

Overwatch, DOTA2. Witcher 3 is kinda sorta a contender for second place here but would not be questioned much elsewhere.

Grand Theft Auto V comes to mind right away. Practically only on GameFAQs would it have the slightest of struggles with its division this contest.

Something similar goes for Mass Effect 2: it's only a shaky favorite for its division here, but it would steamroll and possibly give BotW a good match elsewhere.

Let's see... If this contest was held on Reddit, I think Bloodborne would win it's 8-pack over Fire Emblem & RE2. Minecraft would win its division. Overwatch would win the bottom half of D4. There's a good chance Persona 5 would lose to Portal 2 or RDR2 - I suppose even this hypothetical depends on whether or not you're considering just the main gaming subreddits or the whole site.

One debated matchup I've seen discussed is Hollow Knight vs Tales of Berseria. That's one that would be an easy pick on any other site. Only here would Tales have a chance.

I think Red Dead Redemption 2 and The Last of Us are particularly good examples of games which would be much stronger elsewhere. Also, RDR1 rocks Persona 4 virtually anywhere else.

If the poll were held on Google, then...maybe? But wouldn't that also give huge boosts to all kinds of games in a way that would be tricky to predict?

It isn't just you - I've seen that phrase used a lot over the years. I probably used it too. But it doesn't really stand up to scrutiny. What you put there is probably a better way of saying it/the true spirit of the question.

The Last of Us will do very well here, but would be a surefire top 3 in many other places, it easily won the Metacritic users poll. I do think Breath of the Wild would dominate in most places however, that game was a huge deal. I think Witcher III is likely top 2 or 3 here so I wouldnt say that at all. Really I think the biggest difference is that Smash Ultimate will do much better here than elsewhere, but I am not expecting huge differences.

Regarding the likes of Fortnite, I doubt that gets much traction in terms of game of the decade elsewhere. There is a difference between popular and acclaimed. Its also important to remember that games and the discussion around them have democratised to a point that the line between casual and enthusiast has significantly blurred. At The Game Awards, as mainstream a platform as you can find within gaming a Fire Emblem game won the user voted poll. That says a lot! So I am not expecting giant differences.
