Why even make Indiana Jones 5? Harrison Ford will be pushing 80 by the time the movie comes out.

I thought Harrison Ford was awful in the force awakens I can't imagine he will be any better in a movie where is plays the title character and has even more screen time. They should either throw a hat on Chris Pratt and let him be Indiana Jones Jr or something or do a movie that is about Indiana Jones being a Professor and just focus on his work at university as he interacts with fellow staff members and students.

I'm fine with this. What dragged Crystal Skull down was shitty, waaay over-the-top CGI setpieces; Harrison Ford remained consistent and entertaining throughout as far as I can recall, even though there was only so much he could do on his own to salvage the trainwreck.

The scene in the diner and the resulting car / bike chase could stand among the best in the franchise imo, so there's still hope that they can make a decent modern Indy flick if they focus more on maintaining that kind of tone.

Kind of a bummer. Spielberg hasn't been at his best in some time but I still enjoy his style.

Why though? The original trilogy is like 40 years old now.

Steven Spielberg mentally checked out of the series when he found out George Lucas had lied to him and didn't have a second and third script waiting to be filmed.

The second movie was cobbled together from cut content from the first movie and ideas lifted from Gunga Din which Spielberg wasn't fully on board with. The third movie was a beat by beat rehash of the first movie in which Spielberg kept himself invested with a wish-fulfillment subplot involving an estranged father and son reconciling. And the fourth movie was so phoned in that not even his obsession with aliens could keep him motivated.

Indiana Jones is to Steven Spielberg what Han Solo is to Harrison Ford. It's that character he doesn't have interest in, but can't escape.

It would have been better if someone else had been given the reigns in Indy 4. It might've been better altogether if the series had ended as a trilogy. But at least there's a chance the series can end on a good note.

I mean, I love Steven Spielberg. He's my favorite director. But if you're no longer interested in a property, it's time to give control over to someone else. (Just not the guy who directed Jurassic Park III.)
