If you're an unmarried single person with no children (most likely a lot of us here) making $50,000 a year you're paying over $5000 a year in taxes to corporate welfare and about $230 to SNAP.

If $230 to SNAP pisses you off more than the $5000 to corporate welfare then really you just hate poor people.

Yes definitely. A lot of my family have serious ongoing health issues. So if they could get cheaper or free care I'd gladly pay more in taxes. Plus I'll likely need medical care myself sometime in the future too

I would entertain such idea for emergencies and other non preventable causes due to aging like alzheimers and cancer etc. Everyone else can get Healthcare if they have 20% or less body fat. We shouldn't subsidize unhealthy lifestyles that drag down the rest of society.

This.

Please understand this and please don't spread high numbers like that around, without understanding how they apply to the everyday layman

Also that 52% only applies to what you make over $10M so if you made $15M you'd only pay $2.6M in taxes on the extra $5M you made over $10M

You get to choose whether or not to have health insurance though. Not so much with paying taxes.

Nah. The "viral stat" has the wrong tax amount on both ends and fails to mention the many different scenarios in which someone with 50k salary doesn't pay that much in taxes. (Someone married with 2 kids pays very little in taxes).

Those numbers are only accurate specifically for unmarred people with no kids which is what I specified.

I don't understand this post at all. For one, the argument isn't that 'we' can't afford health care, the argument is that we can if we pool our resources. Also, the proposal isn't for government to administer health care services but for the government to provide the financing for those services. That does also include administration, but as others have indicated, it streamlines (i.e., reduces the bureaucracy) of our current multipayer system. There are ways we can reduce costs but even with generous assumptions we almost certainly need to raise taxes to cover the costs of any reasonable health care system even

In your opinion, would you say our government has a good and strong record of spending our tax dollars? It just seems idiotic, to not simply suggest we divert funds from elsewhere to provide for a healthcare program...instead of just paying more money. The government doesn't have a good track record when it comes to needlessly spending our money.
