So you want to make people watch gay sexual acts until they are so desensitized to it they no longer find it disgusting. That is quite disturbing.

What a stupid comment, as are most in this topic.

Most gay people don't have a visceral reaction to watching straight people in real life or film have a physical encounter with someone. I could even watch straight or lesbian porn in a non-sexual context and be perfectly okay with it.

Yet many people go out of their way to say they wouldn't watch a movie like Call Me By Your Name or Brokeback Mountain because it depicts gay sex or a gay relationship and they find it gross. Exposure to those things should make you more comfortable with the acts in the long run - probably why most people are not affected by straight sexual acts.

Despite how confrontational TC is being in this topic, his/her point still stands.

Because even though we are more accepting now and doesn't same-sex relations like the total "out-group" that it used to, our culture still tends to give it specific acceptance. That is to say, "it's okay (the 'in-group') for homsexual people, but not okay for me (still treating it as an 'out-group')." And so even though they may be okay with homosexual relationships as a concept, some heterosexual people still have difficulty being exposed to any related imagery.

Essentially, it's a lingering part of culture from a time when it wasn't okay.

Personally, I feel happier when I see gay people kiss or what have you. It's like a mood boost for me. I guess it's because I feel happy that we live in a society where it is slowly becoming more acceptable for them and that they feel comfortable enough to openly express love each over. Also proud of the battles that have been fought to get society to this point. There's still a long ways to go but I'm glad the progress is happening.
People who get disgusted by seeing people in love need something better to worry about. Lol

You are also talking about different things and different people in your post. For example.. I don't wince at homosexual displays or exclaim out loud "ew gross." But at the same time no I wouldn't have sex with a man for any amount of money. This would be traumatizing no more or no less than a woman or man having sex with someone they do not want and have no attraction to. Not everyone has a price for sex even in heterosexual relationships. There are woman that no money can get me to sleep with them. Don't forget there are people who do find it gross to see two people of the opposite sex kiss that they find unattractive in some way.

Ill be blunt. Homophobia is still in the culture of A LOT of places.

Religion, men, and some minorities especially have historic dislike of homosexuality. Now imagine youre a religious, male minority. Imagine your upbringing and who youd be around.

People got angry at the ending of The Legend of Korrra. Its not just male male. People only like female female in porn.

I myself am a bit homophobic. I dont want to a dude sitting on another dudes lap. I dont want to see them doing anything with eachother. My limit is hugging.

Anyone acting like its not a problem is silly, imo. Thats where TC is right. When I was in an interracial relationship, reactions were way different than when I simply hung out with black female friends and they thought we were together. Its not too different.

I get I shouldnt have a problem with homosexuality. But I do. I remove myself when I see it as its not my right to do anything about. But I do FEEL like its wrong. Despite knowing its not. I cringe, etc. A woman coming on to me that I dont want is just awkward. When a gay guy comes on to me, I get angry.

I am aware it is not logical. But I try not to have it impact gay people. Where TC is wrong is calling it pathetic or compensating. Its a feeling. I cant immediately help that. Dont talk down to others for something you ironically cant relate to.

I remember for awhile back in the early 2000s/mid-2000s, it was starting to become a common idea that using "gay" as an insult was immature, hateful, and stupid, but then it seems like society reverted and went right back on that. Meanwhile, we have people acting like the world is so much more pure and "PC" than it was 15 years ago, but it feels like we're just going backwards again, and nothing will ever change or improve.
