i mean obviously we have become much more accepting of gay people as a society these days. but then you still have people who are like i wouldnt suck a dick for 100 billion dollars because i am SO straight. people who wince every time they see a gay couple do something affectionate. guys who get uncomfortable around gay people and are like just dont try anything on me hurr durr!!. and yet these same people probably dont consider themselves homophobic at all.

comes across as pretty pathetic to me. like over compensating for something... idk i just dont get it. seems like an attitude people should be moving past yet its super prevalent idk

People who really flip out about homosexuality aren't secure in their own sexuality. Or that's how it's always seemed to me.

Boys are taught from a young age to show affection toward each other through aggression. It runs counter to a lot of peoples upbringing to see the opposite (men showing affection through hugging/kissing/holding hands/sex/etc) which creates a feeling of wrongness that takes a lot to break yourself of.

A lot of people dont care enough or want to move past this, and thats generally okay. Live and let live as long as they do.

that doesnt seem okay to me. i mean it sounds like a dude saying im not racist! im ok with black people! i just dont want to see them or be around them or anything!
these attitudes feel like slippery slopes back down to outright homophobia and that we should definitely be moving away from them.

Have you ever hugged another man (not family) without:
A) the words man, bro or any equivalent qualifier coming out of your mouth
or
B) Doing a chest bump or handshake-into-one-armed-hug
or
C) being drunk.

I did think about hugging as an exception but even that generally requires some sort of praxis for men. Most of the way boys are taught to interact is through roughhousing and busting each others chops.

its not always a matter of bigotry

many western straight folk are just turned off by imaging gay sex under certain conditions
straight men typically don't like imagining two guys banging each other....thats fine, its normal
most straight women are not fans of picturing lesbian sex either, and i acknowldge that as a lesbian myself...thats fine, it's normal

if someone straight in my social circle says eww to picturing gay sex, but supports gays having equal rights anyway, i don't gotta problem with them

most of us gay folk cringe at the sight of straight sex too....

Why do you get disgusted by anything?

Its a visceral reaction that people often just feel. Think about whatever it is that disgusts you, whatever it is. Did you choose to feel that way? It might be true that some people are over compensating for something, but Ive never seen proof that its true for the majority. If you tell us youre disgusted by homeless people eating out of a garbage can, for example, I wouldnt say you are compensating for it, or that you secretly want to do it too, which is an argument Ive heard from others.

It's a natural reaction to something they dislike like food, certain smells, certain sexual fetishes and many other aspects in life. If you arent born with a taste for it, you wont like it, end of story. No amount of mocking, shaming, guilt tripping, or calling people insecure or whateve will change that reality.

righhht. totally a natural reaction.... not one that has been engrained because of generations of homophobia. but nah yeah we should just let people keep those ignorant perspectives instead of try and educate and better ourselves.

What is most important to note is that the responses did not differ as a function of self-reported levels of prejudice or self-reported levels of aggression towards gay men, Blair explained. In other words, it was not our highly prejudiced individuals who were experiencing a heightened physiological response to the images of same-sex couples kissing, it was everyone in the sample, even those with very low levels of prejudice.

This out of a sample of 120 straight men. Every single one of them, without exception, experienced the reaction.

Straight men find two men kissing disgusting for the same reason straight women find two men kissing hot. Because they're straight. It has nothing to do with bigotry. It has to do with sexual preference. It's natural.

it's not exclusively either one all the time

People have disgust reactions to different things. That's instinctive, and sometimes unfortunate, but ok. It's possible to be grossed out by something that doesnt gross others out.

That said, there are people who hide their bigotry by pretending to have an innate reaction, and there are people who emulate a disgust reaction to fit in or be cool, and there are people uncomfortable with their own sexuality and take that out on others. These things are not ok.

Usually you can tell who is being a douchebag vs who is legitimately grossed out irl. Online, not so much.

Whatever the reason, they need to get over it. Lol
Personally, I feel happier when I see gay people kiss or what have you. It's like a mood boost for me. I guess it's because I feel happy that we live in a society where it is slowly becoming more acceptable for them and that they feel comfortable enough to openly express love each over. Also proud of the battles that have been fought to get society to this point. There's still a long ways to go but I'm glad the progress is happening.
People who get disgusted by seeing people in love need something better to worry about. Lol
