Good riddance, they used to be pretty cool back in the day...but they increasingly became EA Level of bad.

Remember when people were like "They just gotta make it till the PS5 launch!"

lmfao they ain't gonna make it. Don't go trading your systems towards a next gen console no matter how lucrative they make the deal.

This is going to be a weird time for other store chains, Walmart, Best Buy, and other places will end up being the main console hubs.

One thing that bugged about them is when its like a week or 2 past a games release and they take every game out of the plastic wrap, slap their sticker on it, and give you a grungy looking case after. Why they gotta do that if they can just keep them new and untouched behind the register anyway?

they gut their all their games so when you ask for a sealed copy they can tell you they keep game discs separate for security reasons, which also means they can hide the returned stash in with the new.

I knew this too, I hate it but I know I got to accept it.

There is one benefit on the PC-side of things, the community bugfixes, mods, and restoring content that was once censored.

They could close every store tomorrow and they'd still ruin every disc before they put them in the trash

Why not just put the returned games up as preowned. I haven't shopped at gamestop in years. But weren't the preowned games like $5 off new or some ripped off price. Seems like a lot of work and possibly alienating people over $5.

Likely true.

A few years ago I went into town and decided to stop by gamestop to see if they had anything I was interested in and the employees were throwing older games like frisbees.

Well I have no doubt they eventually went into the dumpster, but they were throwing them in the store, not into the dumpster.

Made me seriously question every pre owned game I ever bought there with scratches or fingerprints on the disc.

Well until we know when GameStop is going to shutdown will just need to get the Dumpster Divers to be on the initiative.

They'll make it. If they were going to declare bankruptcy/go into receivership before year-end we'd know already. Evidently they still have cash stored away so there's no fire alarms going yet.

Anyways, if Gamestop going down takes EB Games with it (EB is doing WAY better up here than GS is doing in the US) I'm gonna be pissed.

That'll leave Walmart, Best Buy, and Amazon as the only "reliable" nation-wide video game retailers (TRU does still exist up here and does carry games but they're kind of doing their own thing 95% of the time) with no nation-wide used game retailer, which means the secondary market will be fucking garbage.

Its both legitimate and bs. I know on release day they keep them completely new and sealed still behind the desk, but given a week they gut everything for "security reasons"
