It's been a good quarter year, and I'm more than ready to dive into this and then attack Maniac in the main game.

Hoping to see character use analysis for the new characters and classes soon.

Edit: looks like it hasn't actually hit yet even though it's out today, might be a few hours. From the sounds of things it's pretty beefy, near 10 hours.

Was interesting to have such a limited character selection, and they out you into some neat situations.

Definitely appreciating the additions in the context of bringing into the actual game, though. I don't have any idea who would be good as a War Monk/Cleric though. Balthus is the poster boy for it and he's not good as one at all. It's a great class's, but...maybe Annette?? She has the axes for it.

Also, Dancer Byleth!

It was okay, I guess. I don't think it added a ton to the story because everything we were told in it we already knew via other means (just this one has characters telling it to the MC's face).

That being said, really like Yuri and Constance so they're likely going to be regular members of my squad in the War section of my Golden Deer run.

It's less than a fourth route, really.

It's not a full route, it's 7 missions. There are absolutely no noteable story spoilers. Technically if you just want the new characters and classes in the main game you only have to beat chaoter 1 of it, too.

If you're on a new game+, the Pagan Statue in the Abyss is crazy good for help on Maddening difficulty. Most importantly, the new classes and characters are VERY good. You can't really tell from the DLC missions themselves, but in the main game it's a lot more obvious. All 4 classes are even better alternatives to Master Classes, Yuri has the highest speed growth in the game, and I think Constance is the one who ties Lysithea in magic growth. Balthus and Hapi are also pretty high tier.

So like I should get it, beat a chapter, and then my second and third routes will have extra people and classes? And then maybe go back and finish the rest of the new stuff after?

I mean....there is no reason not to just do it all right away, really, unless you just aren't feeling it or you think it's too hard at the moment. Once you beat Chapter 1 of it, the rest is only there for the story. Even the new mechanics it adds aren't actually present in the DLC story itself.

Also all of them get great War section designs. Especially Constance.

Also you need to beat at least 6 chapters to be able to recruit the Ashen Wolves.

I got the message after chapter 1. You do have to exit all the way out to the menu first, though.

You unlock classes after chapter 1.
You can recruit Constance after chapter 2, Hapi after either 4-5, Balthus after 4-5, then Yuri after 6.

Huh, wierd, I only remember ever getting the one message when I went back in after exiting after chapter 1. I must have been distracted with something else when I was buttoning into the menu later to start Maddening.

I have not played it yet (just came off a replay need a cooldown period before I jump back into 3H again) so take this with a grain of salt but the impressions I've read lead me to: The campaign takes place fairly early/early-midway into Part I (Chapter 5, I think) but it hints at a lot of the larger secrets in the game. It's also apparently noticeably harder than the main game. Most of the recommendations I've seen are that you should clear the main story on any route first before tackling it so you're probably good.
