Drop Tekken 7? Why would any TO do that?

Its super popular, gets a ton of support from its developer and is more balanced than most of the other games, disregarding the top three characters who are and have been getting nerfed through updates.

There's a reason why most people don't play SF2 / 3 at the tournaments. It's because there are newer versions that are "arguably better"

Also Melee players would have moved to the newer games if Nintendo didn't take out most of the technical depth to them. I mean Brawl was intentionally a spit in the face of competitive Melee.

In fairness, Brawl had a larger comp scene than Melee did for a few years, and it's looked at way more fondly than Smash 4 was in hindsight. It was also fairly technical. The issue really boils down to the style of play (highly defensive.) and the horrible game balance.

It definitely has its fans and while it was made to not be competitive it had a 5 year or so comp lifespan. I think it's an awful spectator game tho

Honestly, games need to earn their spot there imo. A slot shouldn't be guaranteed for a game simply because it's new. I thought it was pretty BS how Crosstag got a spot before it even came out. Game didn't even have a real playerbase before it got in. Although that's probably more because of the ArcSys bias evo seems to have.

Buying up mainline event slots for literally all of their games. How much following a game has should determine what makes main stage. It's not like Arc Systems is the only sponsor

The companies sponsoring are getting their games up there, multiple games. If NRS wants games they might want to consider doing the same. Nintendo is basically trying to anti-sponsor the event and still get a game, that's bias.

I'm not gonna say I think Marvel Infinite should have gotten mainstage or even any slot at all, but you'd have to use "bias" pretty conservatively to say there was none when Cross tag, a game that wasn't out yet which had a poor following and faced scrutiny for its business model and simplicity, got main stage while Infinite didn't even get a spot despite being out and still having a more solidified userbase.

melee isn't anything like ultimate. they're coexisting better than any two games in the series ever have. this isn't the brawl/melee days anymore.

as for EVO, i'd love for melee to be there, but i also like seeing other communities and lesser-known games get the spotlight

It was the newest ArcSys game and they wanted to do related announcements at EVO, of course they were biased to the game their sponsor wanted there. Capcom had already abandoned Infinite at that point.

No. The reason Infinite didn't make the cut was because Joey Cuellar said he didn't think anybody played it. It had nothing to do with Capcom's attitude. He came out and said that popularity is a determining factor yet put a game with a comparable negative popular opinion on the main stage. What you're saying is irrelevant as it largely boils down to bias. Who sponsors what is irrelevant since Evo isn't about the companies. It is about the games and the communities that support them. The founders constantly assert this and use it in their rhetoric when addressing the dismay when games don't make the cut.

I am saying it isn't bias, it's them flat out buying their games in. Bias makes it seem like these guys really like the games and pick them regardless of popularity because they personally like them, and your post seemed to imply that too. It's really here is a bunch of money and put our game that isn't released yet in your tournament. It's that simple. EVO isn't biased toward ArcSys, any company that hands them fat stacks will get their game in there. If they were biased CrossTag would be in there too, but ArcSys wants you all buying the new hotness for this tournament, so we are getting GBF.
