A pretty important character who died in the original DBZ and wasn't brought back with the Dragon Balls during that series (not gonna say who because spoilers) will suddenly be alive again in that movie and you'll have no idea how or why without watching Dragon Ball Super first. Besides that and a couple of new forms for Goku/Vegeta (which can easily be explained as blatant asspulls) there's not much else you need from Super to understand what's going on in the Broly movie.

I liked the DB esque pre baby saga. Baby had it's moments. Super 17 was hit or miss. Dragon saga was mostly good

Just start with the beginning of Super. It picks up where Z left off. GT is not canon I'd personally recommend watching the 'Battle of Gods' and 'Resurrection of F' movies to start Super instead of the TV versions of those same arcs. Those two movies do a much better job at telling the story than the 27 episodes of the TV version did, so watch those and then start Super at episode 28. battle of the gods and resurrection f are also $0.99 to rent. you'll be good for the broly movie if you watch those two first.
