I think ratings dropped because Capaldi was given garbage material to work with. His Doctor's arc was basically finding his place after three seasons of inconsistency. I was looking forward to his seasons, and his debut episode was great. Jodie's fam just needs to actually do something, but the writers keep doing nothing with them. That said, Graham has always been a delight to have around.
