Not even close. Look at how much it is being talked about in sports media. That is how much Di's death was talked about across all major networks for weeks. Especially since they could talk about the horrors of the paparazzi.

There were far too many circumstances relating to Princess Di than Kobe. Tragic mistakes happen. Princess Di could have been completely avoided. Too much conspiracy with that as well.

Had one guy tell me she was silenced because she found out about Prince Andrew's Epsteincapades and was planning on going to the authorities.

Lol wut, Princess D was killed because of paparazzi (conspiracy theories aside), Kobe died in helicopter crash. Unless the paparazzi was chasing down his helicopter the two have nothing in common.

Why do people keep saying this? He was a bigger star in China than Yao Ming and hes very well known in Europe.

That being said, Id say both were equally tragic to the worlds they were in. To a sports fan Kobe was bigger but to someone who pays attention to the Royal family Princess Dis was bigger

Not really. He isn't a star in many places, and just "some sports player from elsewhere" to many countries where basketball isn't popular.

Doesn't change that the whole event was tragic, however.

Both of them died from stupid mistakes.

Sure Diana was being chased by those piece of shit paparazzi, but it's been reported that none of the people in the car were wearing seatbelts, including the bodyguard who was the only survivor.

So yeah, the stupid mistake wasn't the crash, it was not putting on the seatbelt.

Since we're throwing other celebrities in the mix here, I'd like to remind everyone that nothing beats Elvis. His death was so shocking and depressing that people to this day still carry on the running joke that he never really died (bonus points for his name being an anagram of 'lives'), not to mention the spawning of an entire subculture of dedicated impersonators.

The question is which world is bigger. And Basketball is on the lower end of popularity of sports internationally while the other death was a very sociable and likable princess (who was called the people's princess) of a royal family of a nation and a good number of common wealth countries.

Not many countries care about US sports. Especially here in the UK where next to no one cares about them.

Diana was a once in a lifetime news story, and it's sad because that aura around her is what caused her death.

Kobe is a national icon and an icon in select areas, Diana is probably one of the 10 most famous people of the modern era up there with JFK/Michael Jackson etc....
