there are a lot of religious people who are respectful, help people (and throughout history, at the risk of their wellbeing), even if doing so might go against some of their doctrines

Now im not defending deviant, irresponsible sexual behavior. We arent freakin animals. But standing up for the faith? More like, driving people away with old fashioned, shameful, immature standards of behavior. The offensive part to me is how many awesome people dont get to feel Gods presence in their life because they feel guilty and uncomfortable with the demands of orthodox organized religion. So they turn away from God, and thats the tragedy imo.

Fuck that. When i pray? I cuss a lot. And i dont apologize. Because God already knows im fucked up and he loves me anyways. It really is That simple. God loves us, the rest of this shit is manmade. Men couldnt even agree on what books to put in the Bible.

While I am a wayward believer myself, the latter part doesn't make sense in the context of religion. You don't change your belief system because the world around you has, that's secularism.

You can change your OPINIONS or how you convey a message, sure, but if the very doctrine changes then you have no framework.

It's fine. I was talking about cults with my BF the other day. And we were talking about that. The probably with some religions is that they take one part of the scripture, and make a religion based around it. Or read a certain part and interpret it very differently. I agree that they usually change their way of thinking or interpreting something, rather than changing what it says. I see cases of that many times... Though, they do take stuff out of the bible. Like Jesus slaying a dragon and other stuff. But still, they usually just change how they interpret the message instead...

But that's not every religious person. Not even most. A lot of people you wouldn't even know are religious because they don't talk about it. I found out how many people I worked with on base were religious when they talk about someone they know from church or something. In my head, I'm like, "I never heard them mention church or being religious before." So it's definitely not everyone. Most likely, not even a majority... So, just being religious shouldn't (and most likely doesn't) actually bother people. Especially when you don't know. Nor should it be "horribly painful"...
