Okay I dig the connection between Kylo and Rey

I even dig them having a duel in that connection

Where it all falls apart for me is when she gives him a lightsabre through the force

I nearly yelled out "WHAT!?!" in my theatre

That's some of the dumbest shit I've ever seen in a movie

How in the fuck did anyone recover Anakin's saber? It fell off Cloud City when he cut Luke's hand off and Bespin is a gas giant planet.

That's a story for another trilogy.

TLJ and TRoS both built up to it, and they built in an excuse (force dyad) as to why it can't just be repeated by other force users. For those reasons, I'd say that the payoff was earned and the power itself is not universe-breaking.

Rey used force teleport to retrieve it.

Of all the problems with that movie, that was one of the least bothersome. Their connection had been built up for multiple movies, ROS established they had a particularly special force link, and it was foreshadowed earlier in the movie with the command room fight and the pieces of Vader's helmet table appearing near Kylo.

EDIT: Actually, I think it was foreshadowed as far back as TLJ. IIRC one of them got wet from rain after one of those force conversations.

Except they can always pull Force Dyad out of their ass every time now. At least if OP powers like this were reserved for the Chosen One then we have an established reason as to why it's special. And it's not something easily created.

Hopefully they further explain that it was due to Kylo Ren's Skywalker blood that it was possibly.

They used it to explain certain nonsense parts of the previous movies.

1. How did Rey master the force all the sudden
2. How did Rey know how to use a lightsaber
3. Why did she see a vision touching Luke's saber

These were not setup to be explained by force dyad, but by her ancestry or past.
Neither director however knew how to handle that...

So instead it became all that she got from Kylo.

Even if it's dumb lore-wise, it still fulfils the basic requirements to work story-wise. The basic idea is that you have to establish something before it becomes important. In this case, they broke Vader's helmet stand earlier and the helmet teleported to Kylo, and they also grabbed Rey's necklace. So story-wise, it works.

This is more or less how I felt about the whole movie, lol. A lot of it was dumb lore-wise but still worked story-wise.

This Sequel Trilogy is Adam Driver's.

i might recall this part wrong cause i only saw RoS once and it was rowdy. Leia said she foresees Ben dying and her lightsaber was there. she gives up her lightsaber to Luke after that

I think Ben was told this and was triggered in fear & anger because of his destiny to die. In a way i can see Ben slowly turning to the darkside because of this. Leia couldnt stop it. Han Solo is no force user. Luke was the only one and failed.

Han makes the point that Ben was too much like Darth Vader. He turned to the darkside for power in order to escape his fate. when he goes to Snoke and the Emperor its to gain power. he knew his fate from the start and tried to change it. Its not until everybody dies is when he accepts his fate.

Adam Driver is amazing. The tragedy of Kylo Ren...

If the answer is: "they had to be to explain plotholes introduce in tfa and tlj" then the story fails

Except Palpatine literally says that every voice Kylo heard (even snoke's) was him all along, so Snoke being killed is already covered by the writing.

The lack of planning is certainly evident in this trilogy-- no argument there. But there was a natural progression to this new force power, with Luke projecting across space, rain passing from Rey's environment to Kylo's glove, and the necklace and the helmet in TRoS. Whatever disorganization there was behind the scenes, they managed to weave together something coherent when it came to these force powers.

Rey showing aptitude with the force was somewhat explained by Snoke in TLJ when he says that the light side of the force raised a champion to meet the dark. The Force has to balance itself, apparently, and it made a wild course correction after Luke shut himself out.

The lazy answer is their Skywalker and Palpatine bloodlines. The slightly less lazy answer is because they're the strongest force users left that aren't already masters. The more complicated answer is "why does it matter? If Anakin can just be a random ass virgin birth maybe the force just does crap like this sometimes if the timing is right."

I don't think it's explained. Could be because they were in love (not a big fan of that theory, personally). Could be because Kylo was an unequaled, rising darkness in the force, and the force chose Rey to balance the equation, bonding them like a dipole.

Basically the idea doesn't work without massive headcanon.

Yeah, it's kind of an interesting point, but I think there have been good excuses each time.

In TFA, he's bleeding out from a bowcaster wound, toys with Finn and demolishes him, forces Rey to retreat backwards (and is trying to turn her, not kill her). In TLJ, he slaughters almost the entire throne room with little help. He gets owned by Luke's projection, which is the result we'd expect. Then in TRoS, he handles Rey just fine and again, isn't going for the kill. He later wipes out the Knights of Ren.

All these people saying they set up this connection so its fine. Or its space magic who cares where they draw the line.

Theres a very clear distinction between an ethereal link between these two characters and downloading a lightsabre through the force.

So fuckin dumb

and then he just goes on to slaughter the absolutely irrelevant knights of ren. Good job JJ. Master of setup but cant payoff anything.
