So it turns out that all those people hoping for them to be patched back in were rightfully optimistic. The 100 Pokemon per update limit is kind of ass, but it's happening unlike the Dexit hive mind who claimed they wouldn't be coming back until a later game.

Also, I posted in a CE topic that didn't make the distinction of the paid DLC being different from the free DLC. No-one has to pay $30 to get any of the returning Pokemon.

Tbf, considering Gamefreak avoided saying they would re-add old pokemon back into the game with a later update people had valid concerns about not being able to use other old pokemon until the next game.

...so we get less content in the $30 DLC?

People still play pokemon? My cousins around 18-22 are all playing league of legends, fortnite and call of duty.

Im surprised the fanbase hasnt out grown the series.

The $30 is for the two areas, the story involved with the new areas (hopefully they are Delta episode quality), and new customization options.

There's also move tutors returning and the ability to make apricorn balls so you can more of those.

That's fair enough.

I mean, you get all new areas, presumably with their own challenges and Pokemon spawning areas. The price tag is pretty high, but if you don't pay for the $30 DLC, you still get the returning Pokemon. If the Pokemon are all you really care about, then don't buy the DLC.

Pokemon saw a bit of a renaissance around the time of X and Y. Those games didn't do too well, but with the Hoenn remakes later on and with Sun/Moon, the series has been regrowing its fanbase piece by piece.

Even with its issues and backlash, Pokemon SwSh were the best selling Pokemon games in years.

Maybe so, but ultimately I think it's better that the Pokemon are free. Folks are already pissed about the Pokemon being behind a paywall, despite that not being the case. If Game Freak really wanted to fuck over the series they would be selling the Pokemon back via DLC.

All this means is that you don't need to buy the DLC. You get the Pokemon for free.

Well the new pokemon and forms are extra work that would deserve to get paid even if they are available to those without the expansion pass (since that would mean you have to trade with someone who brought it).

It's hard to tell if the expansion pass is worth $30 yet, because we only know at a surface level what is contains. But it has the potentional to be worth the price tag.

It looks like you can't actually catch them for yourself in Sword/Shield without buying the DLC though. You can only get them by trading with someone else who does or by importing them with Pokemon Home. The GTS being gone hurts quite a bit though, so you have to directly find people to trade with.
