I was watching GDQ and noticed they had the runner's pronouns listed next to their name. Watching the Mega Man 7 run and the runner is listed as "He/Him."

This got me thinking, why do we say "He/Him?" Is "He" not always "Him?" Is there a time when someone would use "He," but not use "Him?"

Just trying to stay educated on these things.

GDQ is supposedly a front for a money laundering operation, each time they do it, on the last 12 hours, they get at least one million dollars from "donations" and regularly the donations don't add up to the specified amount. I think it was 2018 at SGDQ that it was noticed they got only like 800k and somehow it was listed as 1,5 million after the first thre days

So...he is always him...or...I'm not following you.

There are over 50 genders. That includes pronouns that not everyone is as familiar with as he/him.

Also, we are discovering new genders all the time. They are like galaxies, we used to think there were only a few, now there are well over a trillion.

Some times people will have like She/they . I don't understand that, but it happens.

I still don't get why I can't be referred to as 'attack helicopter'

Oh interesting. So it does happen?

I wonder why they would use that combination. Obviously, the use of "they" as a pronoun for a single person is already a bit confusing, but I recognize it's used as something He/Him or She/Her can't describe. However, that really throws me off when we throw She/They into the mix.

I'm perfectly fine with recognizing people how they want. I'd just like more context on what it all means.

Isnt this just about basic grammar/sentence structure? You would say, He went on a run, but not Him went on a run.

If you want me to respect a choice that specific, you're gonna have to come up with something that isn't a garbage neckbeard meme.

My point was that if someone uses "He", shouldn't the also use "Him" always? Therefore saying "He/Him" is just kinda a waste. Simply "He" would provide enough context that you'd already know to refer to them as "him" as well.

But, as we learned from this topic, that is not always the case I guess. I'm not sure why, but maybe someone else will give us more information.

Oh I see what youre saying. Yeah, it does seem unnecessary to include both.

I find pronouns kinda odd considering they're explicitly for when the person in question is not around

Maybe you will be able to in the future. Scientists are discovering new genders all the time.

I think it's just to look better than just "he". Or maybe because xe/xir has to be typed out and so he/him and she/her are also typed out to keep everything similar?

Because "unfunny" works just as well and more people can understand it.

There are also gendered variations of "you" now, apparently.

We refer to people with third-person pronouns pretty often in groups of three or more.

Well, I saw "we" in the metaphorical sense. I don't hang out and talk to people IRL.

I actually didn't even know Xe/Xir even existed until this post. I'm guess people are just more likely to use they or them.

A human can't be an attack helicopter. They can, however, be male or female. Common sense dude.

apparently they can also be both male and female
and 47 other unique flavors!

One possible answer is because for some reason a few people will go by he/they or she/they rather than he/him or she/her. I have no idea why.
