As a white person in NYC who sometimes has to walk past Hispanic/black teens at night, I have probably experienced more direct racial abuse than any non-Muslim/non-Jewish minority born after 1970.

But there was a guy just the other day who assumed that me and the person in front of me were together while checking of a line in a store. Rung up our items together, even though everything was seperated. They blatantly said it was because of skin color.

Directed at me, its been a while. I was, however, near a demonstration where the speaker was spewing anti-white sentiments loudly and publicly. Kind of scary.

I'm not trying to make a political statement or take on a stance

but after Trump was elected, I was harrassed several times by lots of red necks at different gas stations in the parking lots

I'm white so it basically never happens but I did have an interesting experience in Japan a couple of years ago.

I was on the subway with some (Asian) friends when an older (and totally wasted) salaryman boarded. As soon as he set eyes on me, he began walking the aisles and screaming at the top of his lungs this neverending speech about how in the good old days nobody would tolerate seeing gaijins on the trains and how the country is weaker than ever for allowing foreigners to walk among them etc etc

I was able to just ignore him by pretending I didn't understand what he was saying, and at the very next stop security came and dragged him off. Was actually hilarious because they tapped him on the shoulder mid-speech, which resulted in something like "AND ANOTHER THING I- oh" as soon as he turned around and saw he was in trouble, lol.

Lots of this.

The only time I was very blatantly prejudiced against because of racism was in college when my freshman English teacher was actually from the African American studies department and decided that her slant on the course was going to involve a theme of Western African literature. I was a little out of my comfort zone with that, but then she literally singles me out after the first class and says, "I think you should drop this class."

As someone who could be viewed as pretty much any race from white to black somehow, almost never. For all intents and purposes I'm the classic basic white guy but because of my latino heritage, I've never been excluded from topics about race.

There was one time in missouri as a boy when a bunch of rednecks came up to me asking some pretty threatening questions, but my grandpa was with me and he completely defused the situation with humor.

However, I've indirectly seen a lot of it, from parts of my own family. Like 15 years ago I had Weird Al's "White and Nerdy" on my voicemail, and my aunt called and after hearing it left a message telling me to take that n-word music off. Then I had an uncle who repeatedly used a racial slur for Chinese people in front of my half Korean girlfriend at the time. Shit was awkward. My mom and stepdad's sides of the family are super racist, bio dad's not so much.

I've also had the n-word dropped on me over Live/PSN just because my voice is deep.

Dude I grew up in Tucson and was practically adopted by the cholos after my parents kicked me out. Never felt discriminated against because I was white. Also spent 5 years in Okinawa, literally surrounded by non whites, and always felt welcome. And that's just two of the places I've lived.

Assuming that I haven't interacted with minorities because I've not experienced racism directed at me is idiotic, although I guess I shouldn't expect much more from a known racist like yourself!

Uhh this happens constantly if you find yourself in East New York or Brownsville at certain hours. This is exactly what I mean when I say "sheltered." Try actually passing through a bad neighborhood and not a classroom at Howard University or whatever.

Exactly. Most people here only know about race relations from The Internet and don't actually have the balls to hang out outside of their comfort zones. Racism is extremely prevalent in all lower income communities regardless of background.

The ignorance of chanclas is a microcosm of this!
