If a spider can steal something from him, it really didn't belong to him, did it?

The spider should've been berated for not exploring any vegan options.

Theres this too

If I opened a box and saw that I would burn everything within ten miles to the ground and then salt the earth to make sure they are all dead.

errr bad time to talk about alighting australia.

I didn't mean Australia specifically, I just meant if I saw a shitload of big ass spiders like that it would freak me the fuck out and so I would go scorched earth of them. Its the only way to make sure they are gone.

they're a favorite, and closely related to what i would consider my favorite (wolf spiders). the dolomedes i like the most aren't the ones you'll find hunting on the water's surface - i like the ones livin' on trees.

What are those called?

What is this article? It's not news. It's a man who took pictures of the fish being eaten and describes some strange story about it that might not even be true?

Weird.

dolomedes tenebrosus, d. albineus, d. vittatus, d. scriptus, and d. triton are all members of the genus i've found in north carolina woods. never far from bodies of water, but never actively hunting in a body of water - which is something you often find d. triton doing.

dolomedes triton is common along waterways in the southeast. i'm certain it's here in northern illinois as well though i've yet to see one (i don't get to spend much time in parks at night here in chicago lol).

the one in the OP probably has similar lifestyle to this one. lives along the edges of water bodies, often dives to grab fish, tadpoles, etc.

the other species i listed have noticeably different coloration - unlike the green/brown pond scum color of d. triton, its arboreal relatives are typically more... bark-like.

this is a nice large adult female d. tenebrosus. they're quite common and quite widespread. i love them.

most of the others look like them and are difficult to tell apart. some are darker, some have stripes, uhhhh...

and then there's dolomedes albineus, with its white, lichen-y splotches. sometimes the white bits take over and you're left with a beauty like this one:

i don't really mess w common names, but dolomedes as a genus is referred to as fishing spiders (dark fishing spider, six-spotted fishing spider, white-banded fishing spider, etc) and dolomedes belongs to a family that is referred to as nursery-web spiders (pisauridae!)

Thanks that was a very interesting read.
