I dont understand her comment on arthritis and hard beds.

Is that really something that happens?

No idea on the subject matter but looking at the source video... that would be like Coke saying that non carbonated drinks cause oral cancer.

idk if I agree with the analogy but I understand 100%. And thats why Im asking. Like... if theres any truth to it I would be surprised its only now that Im hearing about it.

Nevertheless, I do need a new mattress.

Unlikely since arthritis is an autoimmune disease and mattresses aren't known to cause cellular damage unless there is a chemical used in the production of mattresses that can affect people, which could also be a possibility.

True but theres also arthritis due to aging/overuse of certain joints. I was wondering if somehow a hard mattress could mimic such effects in the body, and thus why she made that claim in the video.

The softness/hardness of your mattress mostly depends on your sleeping habits. Depending on how you sleep, a soft mattress may actually be worse for you than a harder one.

How you sleep can exacerbate arthritis and yeah the firmness of the mattress could factor into that. If you want an example be over 40 and sleep on the floor a few nights.

Not a prob at all when your in your 20's and 30's but 40+ and you'll notice it pretty quick. Obviously a hard mattress is softer then the floor, but if your sleeping on it long term, it could cause problems. So can a too soft mattress though.

I always sleep on my side, which prevents most problems, although if I sleep on the floor I feel bruised the next day for sure.
