On a 2 year monthly plan at 0% interest, sure. Otherwise, no. I just picked up a new Korean version Samsung S10 5G for 3350rmb (about $480) about a month ago.

My dad got a Moto G7 Play for free from Verizon and I swear to God there is literally nothing wrong with it. Unless you're big into mobile gaming then "budget" phones seem to be fine. Although... I have strong reservations about the Pixel 3A's build quality since the plastic frame is prone to bending and the dragon trail glass shatters if you sneeze on it.

I never pay money upfront for my phone it's just financed into an 18 month plan (this is quite common in the UK).

That said, my S10 has the power of a decent PC (it can run Gamecube games perfectly fine, I'm playing Paper Mario just now) and is a high definition video camera and a GPS for my car and countless other things so the upfront value is hardly ridiculous when you think about it...

It would have to be really great.

A $1000+ phone should be dramatically more appealing to me than one that's only $300, otherwise what's the point? The truth is the top-line phones are only somewhat more appealing than the phones I can get for much less.

It would need:
-Good vibrant OLED screen
-5 inches or smaller--I'm sick of massive phones
-No notch or hole punch on the screen
-Fingerprint sensor on the front
-Samsung pay
-Good battery life
-to be fast and snappy
-Good cameras, especially at that price
-Stereo speakers
-to be bundled with good wireless headphones
-an extra button like bixby that can be remapped

If you use your phone for work, then it's more of a 'capital expenditure' that hopefully pays for itself by improving your productivity or having less stress/frustration to not have to deal with something janky while you're trying to get work done.

The main difference between mid-range and top range phones is usually the camera. If the camera isn't a big deal, you can spend significantly less on your phone.

Not really anymore. I mean the Pixel 3A had the same exact camera as it's flagship brother.

I'm perfectly fine being one generation behind and paying significantly less. I also find it silly to upgrade your phone every 2 years. My iphone 6 Plus is still going strong.

$1000 is pretty standard for any new phone now or close to it if you're getting something top of the line. i've had mine near 2 years and still works pretty good for the most part. my charging port is a little iffy tho so i might just replace it myself for like $20-30. battery life is dying a bit but i still get like 5 hours of screen time with it and have a battery case i keep at work if i'm not able to plug it in. it still has better battery life then the lg g4 i had before or my old s8. had extended batteries on both of those and even those were only getting around the same battery life i have now.

Yeah. It was either that or the one with the yellow stylus. I felt I didn't need the stylus one.
