Cosmonauta (Switch)

You play as an astronaut that is experiencing issues with the navigation systems on his ship and he has to make his way back home.

It's a pure platformer with 65 levels.

Beat this in a single sitting. It was really fun.

First time playing through, was fairly enjoyable. I did not care much for the hacking though, it was way too often and took me out of the game.

Starting up No More Heroes for the first time now.

Goblin Sword (Switch)

This game is REALLY good and very fun!
I'm even more impressed that this was a mobile phone game.

You play as a hero that has to stop an evil wizard that has found the Goblin Sword from taking over the land.

It's a retro inspired action/platformer. You can use many different Weapons each with their own Magic Power. Each Weapon also has their own Power, Speed and Range. You can also wear different Armors (Armors are just for aesthetics but for fun) and many different Relics you can use that give you various functions. In each level there are 2 Treasure Chests to find that holds Gems/Weapons/Armors/Relics and 3 Crystals for you to find in each level to unlock a secret level in each world. The boss fights are pretty fun.

I highly recommend this game!

I've actually heard a fair about Goblin Sword. I've been thinking about getting it, but for whatever reason I have a hard time getting into games with pixel art.

On this day, 6 years ago, I made my backloggery account. Today, without realizing it, I chose to finally beat the final boss I've been prepared for, for probably two weeks now. Fun to beat a game on the anniversary of my backlog. Especially this one.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Wii U)

For those that know me, you'll know that The Legend of Zelda is my favorite series. And while disappointed at Calamity Ganon and Dark Beast Ganon, compared to some other bosses through the series... it doesn't change what Breath of the Wild did. It gave me an open world with a challenging way to exploring it without making everything you do overwhelming at times, unlike a game I get frustrated at whenever it's complimented. It gave me nostalgia of many games throughout the series with its music and locations. It gave a lot of character in both its NPCs and its generic enemies. It's easily my game of last decade... As long as something doesn't exceed all of that.

Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite (XB1)

The only MvC game that I've played was the one out in arcades like 20 years ago. I guess this wasn't positively received? I had fun with it though. I only went through story mode, arcade mode a few times, one online match (which I won and decided to retire undefeated), and many one-off vs matches, but I found my core group of five:

- Chris Redfield
- Sir Arthur
- Gamora
- Spider-Man
- Iron Man

My best combo is Chris and Spider-Man, with the former being my favorite to play as in the game.

Super Bomberman R (XB1)

I had only played one game in the series before. It was either Bomberman Online or Generation, but I think it was the former as I feel like it was on Dreamcast.

Online is dead in this game, so I couldn't try it out, but I mostly enjoyed my brief time with story mode. I ended up having to go with beginner difficulty after the first or second planet. Their boss fights come in two forms, and the first one is absolute bullshit. I kept trying to corner them or box them inside a bunch of bombs, but they always managed to break free or place an ill-timed bomb to thwart my plans. I basically had to be a suicide bomber, and why difficulty matters is because unbeknownst to me, you have to pay a pretty penny to continue on non-beginner difficulties. I had already spent my money reserves on the in-game shop, so I had to go with beginner difficulty due to the negligent monetary costs.

Nancy Drew 28: Ghost of Thornton Hall (PC)

Masterful. I can see why alot of the ND fans put this on the top of their lists. Basically, they took 3 old ND Games (Crystal Skull, Castle Malloy, and Blackmoor Manor), combined and rehashed their plots, upped the scary, and redid the twist to suit the tone (previously they were all sort of silly and predictable), turning the plot into something more melodramatic and dark. I came into this late because I wasn't ready for scares but was glad to see that it wasn't like Water's Edge. No annoying puzzles too except the last 2 which were rehashes of old puzzles.

The Pedestrian (PC)

Short, sweet, got tedious by the penultimate zone but kinda worth it I guess. It reminded of an old Unity game that was kind of like this too. I wonder if they were by the same creator or if he's part of the dev team. Unfortuantely I've long since forgotten that game but maybe I'll link it when I remember it.

Anyways the ending was a bit cool. Just ambiguous enough to make sense for what it is. But I wish that final part had more in its puzzles. Felt like you could've eked out a few more gimmicks from that.

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition (Xbox Gamepass)

Back to playing older games I never got around to/were on different consoles. First up was Gears of War. I tend to not play a lot of plain shooter games. I get bored of them pretty quick as they feel samey. And I am not too proud to admit, I am god awful at them.

But played this one with a buddy co-op and the co-op worked really nice. The guns felt fairly unique, and the story was kind of cool. I really liked the enemy designs. The ending through me through a loop. My biggest complaint was that the game felt way too dark.

Next co-op shooter is going to be Halo.

Journey to the Savage Planet (PC)

It's indie Borderlands without the cheesy jokes, the RPG mechanics, and has complete freeform exploration. I love the verticality and the whole "you see that place afar, yeah I can get there without loading screens" scale of it. The game's content is enough to thrust you into exploring and there is alot to find. Perhaps too much. Also, the metroidvania style upgrades that encourage backtracking for collectible rewards are confusing especially since you can't access a map and take notes. Moreover, non-essential personal upgrades are gatelocked behind a stupid achievement-based checklist such as "launch 5 things at once and explode them" which only served as padding in an unnecessary formula.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider (PC)

Overall I think I liked it better than Rise, but Tomb Raider (2013) is definitely my favorite in the trilogy. The gameplay was fun, and really liked the more stealth focus on it. The puzzles were fairly easy, but I liked them. The story was pretty meh though, and I had a very big issue in this one where Lara wouldn't jump/grab hold of things when she was supposed to.

I have beaten not one but two fighting games this year, and it's only February!?

This one is unquestionably inspired by Smash Bros., and it's pretty cool! I had to laugh with the character campaigns where who you fight and what's going on in their individual stories rarely match up.

No More Heroes (Wii)

I loved it. All the boss fights felt really unique, and it never really did the same thing twice. They also all varied in difficulty and threw some unexpected things at you. The #2 and #1 ranked fights were probably the hardest for me. I got the true ending, and felt fairly satisfied. No real complaints with this title.

Probably will be posting infrequently until around April, going to try to play less games until Animal Crossing comes out and get back into reading... We'll see how that goes though, since gaming is pretty much my only hobby until it warms up.

Akane (Switch)

You are Akane and you have to take down all of the Yakuza until you die.

One hit/shot is all it takes to kill anyone (except for the Tank enemies and the boss needs two hits)
The same can happen to you as well.

Game is a very fun and stylish arcade arena twin stick shooter.
Some nice pixel art and a thumpin' soundtrack that fits the mood.

There are objectives/achievements that are worth doing. You get awarded with many different Swords,Guns,Boots to help your mobility, Gear that can give you enhanced abilities and cosmetic colored Trails that you leave behind as you dash (trails come from Akane's cigarette).

You have to be careful as you are slashing with your Katana cause it uses Stamina. While you recover your Stamina, you can run away and use your guns as your stamina recovers. Ammo recovers over time and also when you kill enemies. You can only stand still to shoot your Gun. You can also deflect slashes and shots with your Katana. You also have two special moves when you fill up the adrenaline meter. Dragon Slash allows you to draw a straight line and when activated, you go through the line and slash all in your path. Dragon Slayer is your smart bomb/nuke that allows you to slash up all the enemies in one go.

There is a boss enemy that appears for every 100 enemies you kill. This boss also levels up as you go further and he even uses different attacks you have to look out for.

Despite the game being an arcade game where you can see how long you last and make a high score until you die, it does indeed have an ending to be earned. The Final Scene is unlocked after you complete every objective/achievement in the game and it shows why Akane is fighting the Yakuza.

My personal best is
Kills: 551
Max Combo: 220
Boldness: 628

Jaws (NES)
Replayed.
While it can be a little repetitive, It's fun and not as bad as it seems.

Save the Ninja Clan (Switch)

You play as 3 Ninja and must...Save the Ninja Clan from the evil White Ninja!

An action/platformer that is kinda similar to Super Meat Boy.

There are 30 levels and 3 boss fights. There are also many secrets to find in the game and the narration from the "Game Manager" during these secrets are pretty funny when you do find them and the Game Manager gets annoyed at you for trying to "break the game" and sends you off to the next level.

The 3 Ninja have different abilities. Yellow Ninja can Double Jump, Blue Ninja can sprint really fast and the Red Ninja can do a teleport smoke ball that does a short dash which gives you temporary invincibility that allows you to pass through objects and can also extend your jumps. Kunai is not only used to attack enemies, they can also be tossed at a wall to be used as platforms.

Cute little game. Fun and challenging.

Mystery Case Files: The Countess (PC)

So last year, I said I would never revisit this franchise again. I've had fond memories of the beginnings of the HOG genre with my brother and not since the early stuff has this genre gotten any better. It's become derivative, lazy, and befitting it's name as a casual game. And what is up with the generic haunted house theme that seems to permeate this genre to death?!

Sigh. I just keep getting pulled back in like some lazy ritual. I guess it's like being hooked on a soap opera; you're already there for the ride, might as well stay there. Would you believe I came back once I realized 3 had already come out since? I'm invested in the lore now, which is hella convoluted but I don't care.

That said, this one is decent. The puzzles are less lazy however, I was never really in them for the puzzles. The HOGs are still godawful. But then again, after the betrayal that was Rewind 2 years ago, I don't know what to expect.

I'm currently playing the next one which is ALOT better but we'll see how it holds. It honestly feels like Rewind 2.0

Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors (PC - Steam via Zero Escape: The Nonary Games)

I saw the true ending on 2/23, after first achieving each of 999's other endings. In the inverse of West of Loathing, the last game I beat, 999 overdelivered on my expectations, and I felt it was ultimately greater than the sum of its parts.

Maybe I'll actually keep up my current rate of beating at least one game a month this year - a whole year of that would be an achievement by my standards.

Pac-Man World 2 (PS2)

I don't know whether to call this game good or bad. The boss fights are terrible, the camera is very often bad, and the game practically demands you do 1-UP farming.
So the way it works is, in this game you can continue from a checkpoint as long as you have lives. If you don't have lives, you start from the beginning. Now, these levels are hard, and long, and the boss fights are brutal. So, I went online and found a way to farm 1-UPs. But I just keep thinking about who would play this game, and it's obviously kids. And I'm just like, would a kid ever know to farm 1-UPs or where to farm them? No. I just don't get why you would make a Castlevania hard Pac-Man game. Cause it really is like that if you don't farm 1-UPs.
Part of me is like "Fuck yea, a tough as nails 3d platformer. That's so uncommon" but it's also a kids game. And frankly, even ignoring that it's for kids, the game has way too many bugs, it has 3D Sonic camera awkwardness, the boss fights are awful and alot of the difficulty comes from fighting those issues. Oh, and don't bother trying to 100% levels. Just don't. Without going into detail it asks you to collect -everything- in one run of the level, and it's absolutely infuriating. Do not bother

So should you play Pac-Man World 2? NO... unless you're down for hard platformers and even then you must know to farm 1-ups and to ignore 100%-ing levels. Then there is some enjoyment, and I would say at its best it's really cool. It's just the cool parts are sandwiched between a lot of garbage
Long post but this one really pissed me off

I randomly got Pac-Man World 3 as a gift like 15 years ago, and it appears that was the one to get!
