1) I stopped following AC's modern day story sometime around AC2 Brotherhood. Will this game catch me up well enough to understand what's going on? I seem to recall hearing about some kind of soft reset to that storyline at some point, or taking it out of focus, or something.

2) Are the sidequests meaty/worth doing or mostly busy work? So far I've just been doing enough side quests to hit recommended levels for the next main story event, and they've been okay but not remarkable.

1) AC1 + AC2 trilogy + AC3 all have a connected and coherent modern day plot following Desmond. After that they kind of just fell apart (I can explain more if you want but yeah).

AC Origins has very minimal modern day story, following a new character. There's a lot of optional shit you can read through that references previous events/characters from previous AC games but honestly it doesn't even have any bearing at all on the story.

2) Some of the side quests do give you some cool stuff but after a while from what I remember they are more just for the cultural immersion aspect more than anything else.

Definitely get at least the Curse of the Pharaohs DLC, too, if you haven't yet. It plays out *after* the end of the main game but omg it has some of the most beautiful scenery in a game.

The other DLC takes place between the end of the game and Curse of the Pharaohs IIRC. At any rate, it's very short and pretty boring fan service that probably won't interest you if you don't care that much about the AC story.

@Blackstar110 I would suggest putting the user "saspa" on ignore until you finish Origins, he's seems to be fond of posting major spoilers for it
