Hi,

I never played any DMC games. I want to play one at least. There's like 6 of them now. Which ones to play? If I can only play 2, which ones? Don't make this complicated; spare me the details of why which ones are better or worse than the others.

3 was the best one back in the day.
1 was decent, never played 4 or DmC, and 2 is complete and utter trash.
I just got 5 for Christmas, but haven't played it yet.

3 is good
dmc is a good first game

i just played dmc and V to completion
that was all i needed

Start with either 1 or 3. Because DMC3s gameplay is arguably the best in the series, Id say start with that one. I want you to be hooked enough to play ALL of them. And DMC3 takes place before any of the other games, so... it makes sense.

Then move on to DMC1. Then jump to DMC4. Then finally DMC5.

1 and 5 personally. However 3 is also a good choice. You can pick up a collection that has 1-3 on it so get that with 5. Avoid DmC and 2.

If you can only play two of them, dmc3 and dmc5 would be the best two choices. They have the best combat and most weapons/movesets (maybe excluding dmc4se).

You really can't go wrong with any of them except for dmc2, which is actually garb.

As a DMC fan this is a tough one. I'll just give you a run down of what I think of each, I can't pick for you.

1 was my first so it has that special place in my heart but it is dated. The atmosphere and mood is still the best to me tho.

2 Is skippable

3 was a great comeback after 2. Good story and gameplay.

4 was good. Good gameplay but has some disappointment after 3. There were corners cut.

DmC um....experimental reboot? It just didn't have that DMC something but the definitive edition was much better.

5 was good. A great return to the original franchise. Still enjoying it greatly but I return to all of the numbered ones a lot.

I'd say play 1 first because it's a bit limited compared to the later ones, so going back to it might be harder

That's subjective. I'd actually say 1 and 5 are better than 3. Still as I said before the TC can buy the collection so they wouldn't have to choose between 1 and 3.

I mean obviously it's all the same series and the differences aren't as radical as say RE0-3 vs RE4-6, but dmc3-5 are kinda grouped together will dmc1 is kinda different.

The tone is way different in dmc1 than in the other games. The combat isn't really refined like the other games, and in imo, isn't really all about the combos like the other games.

Devil May Cry: Personally, the OG DMC1 is my fave...but to some, it may seem 'dated' with it's static background (like the old RE games, I think) and difficulty (for casuals...it was fine for me). But, to this day, like the other poster said, I think it had the best atmosphere, bosses and gameplay outta the whole series so far (haven't played DMC4 and 5 yet)

Devil Mary Cry 2: The easiest of out of all of them in the series (I think due to ppl complaining about the difficulty of the 1st), but also the 'Worst' reviewed and gameplay outta all of them...for the most part Capcom is kinda ignoring this and the DmC remake, so just play it if you wanna just experience all the games in the IP

Devil May Cry3: Dante's Awakening: Many consider this the best outta the series...while fun with the new Combo/Style Switching on the Fly System, again, it was criticized by casuals for its 'Difficulty', so if you wanna play this one, just get the 'Special Edition' version with Vergil (Dante's Twin) as a playable Character and the Difficulty has been lowered a bit...

DmC (Remake by Ninja Theory): Why Capcom signed off on this, I dunno...but it was done by another Game Studio, and while it wasn't a 'Bad' game, story/lore wise it didn't quite live up to the Capcom games. The only DMC game I didn't finish to completion.

Haven't played DMC4 or DMC5 yet, but DMC4 has a Special Edition as well where again, you can play as the Too Cool Vegil and other DMC characters. And Capcom released HD versions of its Games (I think 1-3, and maybe 4 not sure) so I guess this is good time to play them before Capcom might go the RE route and Completely Next-Gen Reboot the Series...

Style switching during combat wasn't added until 4.
