From what I've seen a lot of scammers just get people to send them the 2FA code without giving the victims time to realize just what they're sending. But the method mentioned in the article doesn't seem to require any interaction from the victim.

I wouldn't say it's for nothing. It depends on which 2FAs were vulnerable and if the implementations themselves were done problematically or if there was a human error component.

Regardless there were likely many 2FAs they failed to break through.
