It's on gamepass and I've put about three hours into it. Really enjoying it so far. Started as a fighter but thinking of restarting as something a little more exciting

It is a fun game:) You get companions and one of them very early on is a fighter actually

Extra summons are really useful, generally gives you another creature to use to attack and to keep enemies off your guys. Think there is a spider summon you can get right off the bat with a new char for instance that works quite well.

I found it extremely disappointing. It sells itself on Baldur's Gate nostalgia, but the story isn't as good, the setting isn't as interesting, the characters aren't all that likeable or developed, and the narrative design is extremely flawed.

Ironically, if they'd actually implemented some of the things that newer games innovated that were great it might have transcended itself, but as is, it's basically dragged down by nostalgia rather than supported by it.

I hear Deadfire is better, but I've never played it.

I own deadfire but only got like 30 minutes in before getting distracted so it's on the huge bonfire of games I will supposedly get to some day.

I got excited that they finally patched Outer Worlds and was going to go back to playing that, but then Stardew Valley got a new update and I decided to play that instead.

I've got a stack with games like God of War and Spider-Man in it. So instead I'm managing a virtual farm.

I have the first one on PS4 and enjoyed it. I didn't like it as much as the old Baldur's Gate games but I appreciate that someone's still making games like this.

it's good in a lot of ways, but also flawed as well

my main two gripes are:
  • too short/small scale. it's especially noticeable on subsequent playthroughs just how little there is to the main game. it seems interesting at first since it's all new and "who knows what's out there", but once you've seen the limited scale, you realize there's not really that much there.
  • poor sound effects quality. something Bioware and even more so Black Isle did great was sound effects. (Particularly in BG and especially IWD). but the sounds in PoE are very very dull and generic sounding. they don't sound bad necessarily, but overall the audio experience ends up really underwhelming. to me this was a key important part of the infinity engine games that most people don't think about and PoE completely missed.
other than that, pretty good characters, pretty good combat, pretty good story, pretty replayable except for the shortness/small-scale problem. it has DLC that was supposed to be good but I never played, and now a sequel that's also supposed to be good but haven't played.

I don't quite remember, but can you even get to that pit without the game itself straight up telling you the fall will kill you unless you get at least one of the gods to help you?

I seem to recall that yes, you can say "Ehh, screw the gods" and just jump in, but the game kind of makes it very clear that it's a stupid idea. It's not something you can just stumble over before you know what it is.

Have it on PS4. I gotta play it more. I played as a rogue before but felt it was too hard to get sneak attacks and stuff so wasn't enjoying that.
Restarted as a fighter I think and I feel like I'm constantly underleveled but then I read that the game is designed for you to skip some fights early on?
Idk. I do want to put more time into it but I'm playing Tales of Vesperia and Spyro Reignited Trilogy right now.
