https://nintendoeverything.com/pokemon-subpoena-discord-4chan-to-sword-shield-leakers/
So basically they're subpoena-ing 4chan and discord to track down IP addresses and other ways to identify people who posted and shared leaks, because the leaks caused "irreparable damage" to their properties. TBQH this is some scumbag-tier debauchery and it really seems like Pokemon Company is going down a dark path. Honestly, their mishandling of Sword and Shield's development/marketing is what caused irreparable damage, not fucking leaks. Every Pokemon game leaks ahead of time, and they always sell millions. Nuff said. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

I don't see it as a scumbag thing at all. If you want to leak stuff you aren't supposed to you need to be prepared to face the consequences. I don't give 2 ****s about pokemon or it's leaks, but just talking in a general sense. Doesn't matter if leaks happen in everything now days, I don't have a problem with companies trying to fight back. Imagine you worked your ass off on creating something for years and years, and some ass comes and leaks everything before you can show it yourself.

If someone gets the players guide shipped to them early and they post info online about it, who do you hold accountable here? The creators of the players guide? The company that sold the book early? I'm mostly worried about free speech implications for somehow who saw the leak and reshared it, wittingly or not Well in that scenario I agree with you. I'm talking specifically about the source of the leak, not someone else who is under no legal obligation. LostForest posted... Idk, it's a moral gray area. So again I'm talking in a general sense here, if Nintendo is trying to go after people that got the book early then lol and good luck with that. But if it's someone that helped create the book and posed as someone that got it early? That's fair game obviously. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

They do, but they generally do it through fairly harmless means like content takedowns/C&D notices. I can't remember another example in recent history of a game company attempting to directly sue random members of the public, though. Like, there's defending your property to keep up your copyright, but this is fucking nefarious. They're the biggest media franchise on the planet, making hundreds of millions every single day, and they're seeking damages against random individuals. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!
