I remember I wore my F Trudeau hat and a guy made the choice to approach me and say While I dont agree with your hat I think its nice. Americans must be a different breed. Ive never been afraid to voice my opinion in Canada. And yeah punching racists wont solve the problem. I personally always defend myself so if someone were to punch me they could expect 1.5x back. Imagine telling someone not to quote you on a public forum.

There's a video really far down the chain as well of the actual fight. He got 1v1'd by a black girl then some other kids threw flimsy little slaps at him.

Most people have agreed that beating the kid up was wrong. The position is more along the lines of "this is to be expected if he was as racist as his mother sounds," not "I'm glad he got beaten up." That said, it's a lot harder to be sympathetic toward somebody who got hurt after antagonizing people to the point of inciting violence than it is to be sympathetic to a more innocent victim.

Although, given the age, I am actually pretty sympathetic to the kid, regardless of the circumstances. If he was being a racist prick to such an extent as to elicit a beating, that's coming pretty much entirely from his upbringing. He hasn't been around long enough to learn to be racist on his own, meaning he's a victim of both this beating and some garbage parenting. That's just sad.

This is one of those situations where everyone is wrong. You don't need to wear a MAGA hat at 14 (I won't say he was being racist, because we can't know, not really). Also, you don't attack people for saying stupid shit, it's not helpful to anyone, and is a crime.

Violence isn't the answer to racial slurs, even though it hurts. You have to realize some people are ignorant and will never rise out of their upbringing.

I have heard awful racial things said about mixed race kids by people who don't know my family make up. It hurts. I have tried to teach my kids to use that as a marker, a way of identifying the kind of person to avoid and not to be.

Yeah, I know it is difficult but not letting a little turd get to you with words will frustrate him into a whining pout.

Beating someone over words just shows you are no better, if not worse, than he because you took it up to a level that gets you into deep trouble and makes the smug, racist think they are right.

I'm still pissed at the bus driver for not stopping this.

I taught for many years. The bus driver is responsible for the student's safety to and from school and is supposed to stop the bus when things like this occur. He is supposed to try to diffuse the situation and move the offending child up to the front next to him. But again, this shouldn't have gone this far. Not only that, since it was such a severe fight he should have called the school and maybe the authorities. ( I believe the school wouldn't want him to though; schools like to downplay things like this). If you are close to the school then you return to the school when things calm down.

Students are not even supposed to stand up on the bus while it is moving. The busses have mirrors so the drive can clearly see to the back of the bus. He couldn't have been oblivious to that screeching and movement. If he was then he wasn't doing his job properly.

He kept driving for most of the fight. The minute they started getting into it he should have stopped and moved the boy up front.

I am not saying it is all his fault, the kids fighting were definitely in the wrong and should be punished but he was the adult in charge. The school will be asking him about it I bet.

Maybe. But he may not get in trouble. Lots of things factor in here. Some bus drivers are older and wouldn't have been able to do much. And has to safely drive those kids back home afterwards, still. So if he got hurt trying to diffuse the situation, that would be bad. And he may have gotten in trouble for that. And he still may not have been able to break up the fight. Nor can he go around hitting kids... unless they start attacking him. They he can beat the little shits up enough to safely get away. Though, then there's a possible loss of job and some parents complaining, while other stand up for the driver. The school will look like the bad guy either way... And there's probably rules he has to follow... And he would need somewhere to safely pull over. So, lots of factors, I guess. And that's probably not even everything they would need to consider...
