Why do so many people not care that we're destroying the natural habitats of various fish and crustaceans, overfishing and exhausting our resources, to the point where by 2050 wild fish might be all but extinct.

A lot do, but others don't. It seems like the people don't care aren't realizing that this is a problem that affects everyone, not just people that happen to like seafood.

Well let's not throw in the towel just yet and call us a doomed species, I mean what's so wrong with realizing that if we make a better future, those who only care about money will able to make more money in that new future.

Why else do you make more money than you can spend in your lifetime than for your descendants right? Biologically you want to leave them with something, they certainly wouldn't want to leave them with nothing but a doomed Earth.

Its a lot more than the oceans, you got dudes slaughtering indigineous peoples in the amazon and burning the forest down. You got polution on mass scale being pumped into the ozone. You got intelligence communites world wide being above common law and beyond public scrutiny with unlimited funds. It goes on and on.

There are a LOT of ideas on how to preserve a depleting natural resource. This is tragedy of the commons 101. The answers aren't all easy, pretty, or succinct, but there are plenty of things to try.

Then you have people like the posters ITT that really just don't care because it won't affect them majorly in the next 5 days...

Solutions to the tragedy of the commons include the imposition of private property rights, government regulation, or the development of a collective action arrangement.

If there is a shortage of a lucrative fish, farming of that fish will emerge very quickly.

The only reason it's failing, is because the owner can't sell the rhino bits.

Fish farming isn't ideal compared to wild fish... a lot of negative reports regarding farmed salmon over regular salmon, and stuff like that.
