Of course she is.

It shows that environmental activists like her are more interested in pushing for their special interest groups in the renewable power industry and promoting social justice on an economic scale than actually reducing carbon emissions to stop global catastrophe.
You do realize that nuclear power is not a renewable energy source and that we're rapidly running out of uranium even with the current rate of use, right?

It's an interesting project but I'll believe it when I see it. Until then, this is nothing more than a Silicon Valley "aim for the stars" kind of deal like the hyperloop or Theranos etc

I don't disagree with the message, it's a pretty common opinion, but what did she do to even earn the opportunity to give such a speech? Your average liberal could barf up some generic rhetoric and pass it through a "passion" filter to achieve the same effect. No solutions, just grandstanding.

Forever defended by the fact that she's a 16 year old girl and never by the strength of her argument.

This year has been pretty lame though, and she's probably the most prominent person of this lame ass year. So I guess she deserves it?

If nothing else she is emblematic of the news telling you "YOU CARE ABOUT THIS PERSON NOW!!!" even if you don't even know who that person is.

Same with Obama and his Nobel Peace Prize too. He probably ordered a drone strike hours before accepting the award but he promoted the idea of peace on TV.

No he didn't. Mostly because he got the award before he took office. He literally got it for being elected. The award was a sham but don't be disingenuous about the circumstances.

It's not really an 'award'. She doesn't get a solid gold trophy or a cash prize for it. It's just recognition in a magazine, as decided by said magazine, primarily for the purpose of selling more magazines.

So many of you are getting pissy and spiteful over it for nothing.

Yep.
My frustration at being told who to care about without ever being told why might make me sound a little more like the latter crowd, but in reality it's just I still have never been told a compelling reason why I should care about her. And I think people should care about the things they care about organically, not because it's a fad to argue about a person or topic. I don't hate her though. Just like I wouldn't hate any other random average teen.

Clearly the epitome of intelligence is some random 16 year old girl. Nevermind the fact that her brain isn't fully developed yet, or the fact that she has very little life experience...

I mean, good for her though. I can't fault success. She's got a bright future and will make lots of money and will likely remain in the public eye for as long the media wants her to be. She's smart in the way that she knows how to manipulate the media. Nobody should be throwing threats her way. If you don't like something, simply ignore it.
