Like someone on Craigslist asking for $800 to sell you an NES game that isn't even that rare?

So who gets to decide the price then is the real question.

Who decides the "fair" price?

No. You have no obligation to buy it.

Then laugh and move on. Nobody's forcing you to pay out the wazoo for anything, much less an apparently not-rare voluntary item.

Irregardless, for all intensive purposes, I could care less.

Free market determines what is a fair price. If nobody buys the game for $800, then that is not the FMV forcing the price to be reduced.

Yeah I if it isn't hard to get. Price gouging during disasters should be illegal as well.

Basically no one buying at $800, but it makes a game that was worth $20 easier to sell at $50 cause people compare $50 to $800 rather than $50 to $20?

I guess so but during a disaster I'm not sure what the difference is between price gouging and just managing supply.

Sure you can charge $15/gal for gas out of greed but on the other hand, if you didn't anticipate it any more than anyone else does and suddenly gas is super valuable, but you don't change the price, you're gonna run out in no time. Probably mostly to scalpers.

Is rationing a better solution? I dunno. Maybe?

If disasters would just stay away we wouldn't have to worry about it. :P

That's not price gouging, it's somebody not knowing what their shit is worth.
