I didn't hate it when I saw it opening night. Snoke getting taken out was unexpected but I didn't mind it. I didn't think Luke's character was assassinated like a lot of people did simply because 30 years can change the fuck out of a person so it made sense that he'd be the way he was to me.

When I watched it on Blu Ray after reading about how terrible people thought it was for months, I too started to hate it.

But I watched it again about a month ago and you know what? It wasn't that bad. I did dislike the entire casino planet subplot but everything else was fine.

I'm actually looking forward to RoS.

For a movie it wasn't bad. Cool special effects, decent characters compared to other movies, decent acting.

But compared to other Star Wars movie it was horrible. All of the not funny humor combined with what they did to Luke was not Star Warsish at all. Star Wars is supposed to be a soap opera, not a prop comedy. Luke was way out of character with no explanation.

Wasn't a good Star Wars movie.

It blows.

Citing the first movie in the series - that still had a duel - isn't even a good argument. There were multiple limitations that existed then that do not exist now. Now you have random enthusiasts making interesting lightsaber duels, but Disney can't pull it off?

Then again, looking at the choreography of that throne room fight, perhaps it is best they didn't soil the universe anymore with a shit rendition of a lightsaber duel.

Being based around the slowest space chase ever brought it down for me. Cynical Luke was the best part of the movie imo.

It was alright overall. I never hated it.

I enjoyed it about as much as TFA. The thing is I treat Star Wars like Fast & the Furious in how I judge them, by not critically analyzing shit and enjoying the ride.

Thoroughly looking forward to RoS. Gonna watch through the series again & will maybe have a new opinion

I just want some continuity. TFA makes getting to luke the climax of the film and its a really dramatic moment. TLJ uses the very same scene for laughs with the lightsaber toss. TLJ then has the past dying as a very strong thematic theme, and the TROS is bringing back the emperor for whatever god damn reason. Nobody wanted him and it really kinda brings into question Anakin and his role as the chosen one. If he didnt kill the emperor than what did he really do?

I thought it was truly terrible, but I liked it more than The Force Awakens because at least it wasn't a remake

Ok but TLJ also has this weird thematic issue where it's building towards Rey and Kylo "meeting in the middle" and rejecting both the darkness and the light, and then kinda just dropping that in the last 15 minutes and undoing its own development.

Not to mention Rose's whole anti-heroic sacrifice thing bookended by sacrifices the film presents as heroic.

Thematically, the film has no idea what it wants or what it's doing. The confusion over "let the past die" is just a symptom.

I mean either ROS is gonna continue the Kylo-Rey journey towards the middle, making the end of TLJ even weirder of a digression, or it isn't, in which case building up the themes in TLJ was dumb since it led to nothing.

For movies to work well with each other, they have to also work well with themselves.

Just found it kinda boring compared to others.

I don't have the same hatred for it some people have, but I don't plan to rewatch it.

I liked it because it let me wholeheartedly enjoy AotC, a superior movie, for the first time in my life.

It did the impossible. Gotta appreciate that.

I've taken several screenwriting classes and have written short films. The film has issues, but it's far from bad

Because it doesn't need to, it just needs to fuel the circle jerk so it gets people to share it for that sweet sweet monetization

There are very few reasonable takes as it falls to one extreme or another. Screen junkies is one of the few but it's also very long.

Or people are fans of the series as much as you are and they expected an ounce of good writing for a major series? From a corp as big as Disney no less. I'm happy you liked the movie but don't discredit our opinions (and reasons behind them) because they don't align with yours.

Not a lot to ride on for the third one when the first two movies in the series were overall piss poor (again, in our experience).

I got no problem with people not liking the movies. That's normal. But the stuff yall complain about is so stupid. Luke sucks because he was troubled and not a one dimensional sunny hero fulfillment. Light speed ram breaks the lore because every prior space battle didn't have one. Think whatever you want but yall sound ridiculous.

I don't come into these Star Wars topics to be adversarial. If i can snap even one person out of this perpetual unreasonable negativity that's been festering for 20 years i would be happy.

TLJ left a really bad taste in my mouth and I have no desire to see it again. TFA was actually ok, but they fumbled the ball in the endzone with TLJ and put the remaining movie in a tough spot. I didn't like how they handled the old cast, I hated the long casino scene, the back and forth between Rey and Kylo got boring, also if Luke was going to die anyway then at least have him there at the last battle in the flesh .

See this is what irks me about the people who defend this movie.

This only happen after Vader was attacking him, and then said he would go after his sister. Before that he literally gives himself up to try to talk Vader back to the light. Has chance after change to attack but doesn't. And you think that is the anything like trying to kill a family member in their sleep.

You are correct. He almost executed his own father after he thought Leia was endangered

He also saw the darkness inside Ben and saw him tearing down the New Republic and killing everyone he cared about

It's a lot like it. Giving in to fear and committing aggressive one sided violence. Luke had Vader pinned and hacked away at him until he cut off his hand and stopped just short of killing him.

It is nothing like it, they were in the middle of the fight and he got too aggressive. That is a different mindset then walking into nephew's room in the middle of the night, feeling some darkness then think about killing him as he lay sleeping. Knowing the darkness in Vader and after seeing him do all these horrible things Luke was still trying. He just felt darkness in Kylo and was like. this kid needs to die now.

He was never close to executing his dad. He was close to executing the emperor but ironically Darth Vader stopped him.

It's terrible as the 8th movie in the saga and it makes little sense compared to the earlier films.

In the OT, what's the point of the starfighters attacking both Death Stars? According to Ruin Johnson, just hyperspace ram it with a cruiser and call it a day.

It was a meandering movie, made complicated by all the main characters being fucking dumb. 20 minutes of plot filled 2 hours. The only worthwhile parts happened around Luke.
