Do you think Chelsea is making the wrong decision to not separate them?

26 y/o Chelsea Torres from Blackfoot, Idaho is a mother of CONJOINED TWINS and has publicly said that she will NOT Separate her twin daughters because they are "doing well" and are "happy and healthy" and that they WANT to be TOGETHER..and despite facing constant stares from the public that questioned if she should separate them

She refused to abort Callie and Carter despite being told they were joined from a large intestine down as the full time mother said her 3 year old daughters are the joys of her life and have started to talk and crawl across the floor together...but are having trouble walking

She is 23 weeks pregnant with another child and hopes the new baby will encourage them to walk.

She said "We haven't thought about separation surgery for the girls and i wouldn't like to separate them. They are doing well at the moment and we have not been advised yet to look into the surgery so as long as they are doing well they will stay together. My daughters are fit and healthy and have definitely made it further than anyone thought they would so people don't know what they're judging us for. Even in our hometown people are constantly staring at us and giving me judgemental looks. People don't seem to think of that and still look at us as though we are weird, even people who have seen us in public before. We've received rude glances and it won't change how i am to my children and doesn't change my opinion on them being separated"

Chelsea was advised to have an ABORTION but she said she refused to her abort her first twins because GOD gave her this CHALLENGE in life to raise these girls

She said the next step is for them to walk but they aren't putting any effort in it at the moment but is hopeful their new child will give them the effort to try

Do you think Chelsea is making the WRONG decision to NOT separate her kids?

Im confused why she thinks a baby is able to understand what that decision is

Babies don't understand shit, as the parent you have to make the right choice for them, which is definitely not staying conjoined

As far as I can tell, separation would mean killing one or crippling both, and that's assuming the best.
Aborting may have been the best option. If they make it to their 20s, they can tell their mother whether or not she made the right decision. For better or worse, she'll know for sure whether or not she did the right thing eventually.

This.

I looked at the pics trying to figure it out, but the article says theyre joined from a large intestine down.

Ive seen some tough predicaments and this one is up there. I respect folks views on abortion but when the doctors are advocating for it then you have to give it a special kind of consideration.

I hope they live a long and happy life.

One thing is for certain. Im glad Im not in the moms shoes.

Exactly. It's as ridiculous as someone fabricating having a premature baby out of wedlock and completely changing the story down the line. It's baffling when you think about it.

1) Creepy
2) Parents are supposed to make decisions in their kids' long-term interests, not whether they seem happy now
3) Can they even reasonably detach them? Because that looks like they're sharing a lot of parts.

If they can be safely separated, they should probably be separated. If they can't be safely separated... well, there's no real easy solution.

Even in terms of your normal horrid opinions, that's rather atrocious. While it won't be an easy life for anybody concerned, doctors advocating that things will be easier if you kill your kids is pretty disgusting. There are conjoined twins who have managed to live happy lives, just as there are countless people who are born non-conjoined who live fucking miserable lives.

I uh... dont even see how that would be safely possible.

Doesnt even sound like the doctors are suggesting it either at the moment. My guess they wont until there is a medical issue.

Gotta say, its kind of a shitty thing to see your own child as some kind of test from God.

Do Christians even realize how often they make God out to be horrible?

Even in the absence of religion, people often adopt an "everything happens for a reason" attitude as a coping mechanism.

I don't think a role model is what they need in order to be able to walk. There are clear physical issues that are likely to prevent them ever being able to walk; motivation and encouragement aren't the problem here.

Honestly, at first glance, the only option I see is removing the upper body of one of the two... At which survivability becomes a real issue I suppose.

Basically, what one would need here to make this decision is not normal photographs but X-Rays or other internal visualizations.

There have been similar cases where each head controlled one leg, but I wouldn't be surprised if one head had full control here.

Chances are one, or possibly both, will die. Staying conjoined at this point probably is the right decision.

Abortion might have been the better decision, though...

I don't see how they could be separated...

I just don't understand the thought process of someone gladly having kids who will need medical attention their entire lives. Can't imagine living this life.

Doesnt that depend on if theyll need medical attention. I cant say because I dont really know. But I did watch this other show with the other conjoined twins who share most of the body, IIRC. Or the whole thing. They seem to be doing fine. They got a job teaching, can drive, and are apparently good at volleyball...
