From what I can tell, the only official statement on the matter from either side was from Wright and he said he left the project because "He wanted to make a Marvel movie, but Marvel didn't want to make an Edgar Wright movie." The way I interpret that; Wright, who have a particular style, wanted to do that with Ant-Man and Marvel was against it and replaced him with some bitch-boy director who would play ball. Everyone knows they hired the "Bring It On" director for his action movie chops. I feel similarly about the falling out between Danny Boyle and the latest 007 movie. "Creative Differences" they said. Imagine having creative differences with Danny Boyle. That man have more creativity in the tip of his dick than all of the 007 producers put together. --- Yeah! You Go, Boy! Guardians of the Galaxy being another good example. Part of the reason I love that film so much is because it's just as much a James Gunn movie as it is a Marvel movie. As far as style go, I say Wright's is more distinct than Gunn and Waititi. He likes to do crazy (awesome) shit with editing that you don't see very much in Marvel films. The famous bit in the Ant-Man films where Michael Pena is explaining stuff to people and voicing over the flashbacks seem like something right out of an Edgar Wright movie. Plus at that point, Marvel was confident in letting directors do their thing. Seems like they're willing to give more directors creative now than before (if they actually have a good idea, that is). Which is a shame for Edgar Wright. The end result is still pretty good but you can see some of the stitches and it's very safe overall.
