That is, if Marvel had let Edgar Wright do his thing.

Sorry. Not sorry.

I liked ant man a lot. Edgar wright was dragging his feet and missed multiple deadlines, and then got mad when they wanted it in a connected universe. I like Shaun of the dead and hot fuzz but it sounds like wright was being a bitch imo

Weren't those just rumors though? From what I can tell, the only official statement on the matter from either side was from Wright and he said he left the project because "He wanted to make a Marvel movie, but Marvel didn't want to make an Edgar Wright movie."

The way I interpret that; Wright, who have a particular style, wanted to do that with Ant-Man and Marvel was against it and replaced him with some bitch-boy director who would play ball. Everyone knows they hired the "Bring It On" director for his action movie chops.

I feel similarly about the falling out between Danny Boyle and the latest 007 movie. "Creative Differences" they said.
Imagine having creative differences with Danny Boyle. That man have more creativity in the tip of his dick than all of the 007 producers put together.

It is the worst creative decision the MCU has made.

The best was letting Thor be funny.

I find it hard to believe they wouldn't let Edgar Wright do his thing with a relatively unknown character but would let Taika Waititi do his thing with both Thor and Hulk.

Well I definitely liked the movie, but a full on Edgar Wright Ant-Man film would have been all sorts of pimp.

It's very odd. Guardians of the Galaxy being another good example. Part of the reason I love that film so much is because it's just as much a James Gunn movie as it is a Marvel movie.

As far as style go, I say Wright's is more distinct than Gunn and Waititi. He likes to do crazy (awesome) shit with editing that you don't see very much in Marvel films.
The famous bit in the Ant-Man films where Michael Pena is explaining stuff to people and voicing over the flashbacks seem like something right out of an Edgar Wright movie. I'm inclined to believe that was one of his ideas that they kept in.

I think Edgar Wright wanted to take a really creative spin on it, something like Scott Pilgrim vs The World, that the producers just didnt want to risk at that point. Much more like a comic book on screen than the realistic approach the MCU has taken. I bet they would be all for it now, since they are starting to take more creative risks

This.
Thor ragnarok was a direct response to criticism of their handling of ant man and age of ultron. Plus at that point, Marvel was confident in letting directors do their thing. Keep in mind, winter soldier hadn't released when any man started filming, so they were hesitant about giving away a lot of control.

Yep. Exactly how I see it. Seems like they're willing to give more directors creative now than before (if they actually have a good idea, that is).
Which is a shame for Edgar Wright. But, at least leaving the project gave him time to make Baby Driver, which was good in its right.

This will always be one of my biggest what ifs. People are still campaigning for the Snyder Cut (fucking lol) but we'll never see a Wright Cut of Ant-Man. The end result is still pretty good but you can see some of the stitches and it's very safe overall. Maybe they can patch things up and we can get an Edgar Wright Marvel movie again some time.

I think it's more likely that he wanted the movie to be standalone and they could not agree to that. You don't hire a guy like Edgar Wright and expect him to not whip pan and dolly zoom to his heart's content lol
